Visiting an Inmate in the Lee County Jail in Florida

To visit in inmate at the Lee County jail in Florida you must follow a strict set of rules and regulations to ensure that your visit goes as planned. All visitations are conducted through the use of video monitors. Each inmate is allowed 2 visits per week for one hour each. Up to two visitors that have been accepted into the authorized visitation list will be allowed to see the inmate, children less than one year old do not count towards your two visitor count.

All visitors must be approved before the visit can be scheduled or allowed to take place. Inmates are given a visitation list that allow the inmates to select up to five family members or friends that they want to invite for a visit. Inmate visitation lists can be updated but only one time for every four months from the day of the original sign up. Clergy and attorneys do not have to be added to the visitation list as well as children under one year old as they do not count towards the visitor limit.

The visitation list does not come into affect for the first seven days of an inmates stay at the Florida Lee county Jail. Inmates are responsible for signing up for visitation the Sunday before the week of the visit. The inmate chooses the date and time and notify you by a phone call, a written correspondence or you can call the visitation office for your visit information.

All visitors 16 years of age or older are required to have a valid government issued I.D. Arrive 15 minutes before the visitation time that you have schedules. Make sure that you have checked that your name is on the approved list. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an authorized visitor who is an adult, the adult must stay with the children the entire time of your stay.

Visitors are not allowed to bring any items into the jail visitation. Literally any item not purchased from the commissary is not allowed in the visitation room. Visitors who do not follow these rules will have their visit ended and depending on the severity of the rule broken may not be allowed to visit ever again.

Communicating with an Inmate Housed at the Lee County Jail in Florida

Contacting an inmate by the mail at the Lee County Jail is only allowed when very strict rules and regulations are followed closely. For security reasons mail is only accepted and allowed for delivery when sent in the form of a postcard. No letters will be accepted in envelopes. To make sure that your post card is delivered include the inmates permanent I.D. number.

Mail is collected and distributed on a daily basis. Inmates are allowed to send mail and are provided with paper pens and envelopes.

The minimum size for a postcard is 3.5 inches by 4.25 inches with the maximum size being 4.25 inches by 6 inches. All postcards must be written or typed in blue or black ink. 

Postcards will not be delivered if:

  • Defaced or altered;
  • Plastic or wrapped postcards;
  • Postcards marked with paint, crayon, or marker;
  • Postcards with labels or stickers;
  • Postcards with watermarks or stains;
  • Postcards with biohazards including perfume or lipstick;
  • Postcards depicting nudity, weapons, or gang references.

Postcards are the only means of mail delivery. No envelopes or packages of any kind will be accepted or delivered.

Contacting an inmate by phone can be a tricky task. No incoming calls or messages to an inmate will be accepted or delivered. Inmates are allowed to make outgoing calls to family and friends during the day. All calls from the inmates are collect. If the inmate you're trying to contact has been disciplined for behavior issues they will only be allowed two calls in a given week. If an inmate needs to be contacted due to medical or family emergency you may call the shift supervisor and they will verify the emergency and grant a special phone privilege to the inmate.
