How the Middlesex County Jail System Works:
When someone is arrested in Middlesex County they can be held in one of the city jails for no more than 72 hours. If they are not bailed out or released on their own recognisance, they are transferred to the Cambridge Middlesex County Jail where they can also be bailed out or they will stay until their next court date or trial.
Once sentenced, they are transferred to the Middlesex County House of Corrections in Billerica. Offenders sentenced to 30 months or longer are sent to one of the Massachusetts Prisons to serve their time.
