Inmates in the Middlesex County Jail
To find out about a recent arrest or if an inmate is in the Middlesex County Jail in Cambridge, you need to call 617-494-4410. You can also ask about bail amount and what unit they are in in order to schedule a visit.
According to the Middlesex County Sheriff, all mail for inmates in Cambridge must be sent to the Billerica address noted above. There are specific inmate mail guidelines that must be followed exactly if you want your letter to be delivered. Read them carefully as there are no exception.
If you want to place money on the inmate's account, you need to mail a money order to him or her at the address noted above. At no time can the balance of the inmate's account exceed $250 or the money order will be returned to you.
How the Middlesex County Jail System Works:
When someone is arrested in Middlesex County they can be held in one of the city jails for no more than 72 hours. If they are not bailed out or released on their own recognisance, they are transferred to the Cambridge Middlesex County Jail where they can also be bailed out or they will stay until their next court date or trial.
Once sentenced, they are transferred to the Middlesex County House of Corrections in Billerica. Offenders sentenced to 30 months or longer are sent to one of the Massachusetts Prisons to serve their time.
