Visiting an Inmate in the Adams County Jail in Mississippi

You tend to think of life in Mississippi being as slow paced as the river that winds lazily through the state, but there are times when the residents get out of hand and have to be locked up in jail. One place where they might end up is in the Adams County jail in Natchez, Mississippi. This is not a jail that could really be considered overpopulated, as it houses about 90 residents per day on average. It's also a little different from many other jails across the country as it is home to both male and female inmates, albeit housed in separate wings. This is actually something that is quite important when it comes to visitation, since the schedule for the male and female inmates are a little different. Read on to find out the scheduled visitation times and the rules that need to be followed.

Visiting Rules

There is no jail in the country, big or small, that has an open door policy for visitors. Each jail has a very strict schedule that needs to be adhered to in order for you to be allowed access to your loved ones who have been incarcerated. The Adams County jail is no different, and has set forth a set of rules and regulations that every visitor to the jail must be aware of. There are also very definite visitation times put in place to make scheduling easy for everyone involved. The Adams County jail is more than happy to accept visitors that follow the rules and who arrive within the assigned times. Here are the rules that are currently in place at the Adams County jail:

  • Only the immediate family members of the inmates are allowed to visit. Anyone else other than a family member trying to gain access to visitation will be turned away.
  • No children under the age of 12 years old are permitted to visit.
  • You are also not allowed to leave children under 12 unattended in the lobby. You can make arrangements to have someone look after them while you visit, but it is recommended that you leave them at home under proper care and supervision.
  • Every visitor must present a valid photo ID before being allowed to visit
  • No cell phones, cameras, purses, or other personal property can be taken back to the visitor's area.
  • All visitors must dress appropriately and behave in a civil manner at all times. Failure to adhere to these or any of the other rules will result in the visitation being terminated.

Visiting Hours

As mentioned earlier, the Adams County jail houses both male and female inmates. They are kept in separate wings, and to ensure that they remain separate at all times, different visitation schedules have been created for each. Please make sure that you take note of these times, as showing up to see a male visitor during female visitation will result in you being turned away. Visitation hours are as follows:

  • Women - Saturday from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m. and 1:15 to 4 p.m.
  • Men - Sunday from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m. and 1:15 to 4 p.m.

It cannot be stressed enough that any attempt to try and visit with a visitor outside of the assigned times will be met with disappointment. The Adams County jail, and every other jail across the country for that matter, runs on a strict daily schedule which will not be deviated from to accommodate visitation outside of the assigned hours. If you are unable to visit during those times, you can still mail your loved one as a way to keep in touch.

How to use the Inmate Search for Adams County Jail in Mississippi

Much of what we do nowadays has become automated or computerized in one way or another. The ways in which jail records are kept are no different, with most sheriffs' departments now keeping all of the inmate records on computer. This makes it much easier for them to keep track of who is where and why, but it also helps the average person who is trying to track down an inmate within the county system. This is because those records are public domain and can be viewed by paying a visit to the website of the county sheriff's department.

The Adams County jail system has a rather straightforward inmate search system when compared to others across the country. That said, they still provide more than enough information to make it easy for folks to find exactly who they are looking for. To track someone down, go to the Adams County sheriff's department website and click on the inmate roster tab at the top of the page. You will be given the option to select either current inmates or those released within the past 48 hours. Choose the option you need and then click the ‘Order by Name' link to make your search easier (please note that both male and female inmates will appear in the same list). You will be greeted with the following information on each inmate:

  • Mug shot
  • Name
  • Booking #
  • Booking date
  • Charges
  • Bond
  • View Profile

The final option is clickable and allows you to view more details such as:

  • Gender
  • Race
  • Address
  • Arresting Agency
  • Original court date

If you can't find who you are looking for, think about going back to the main page and searching through the database of inmates released during the past 48 hours. It's always worth noting that as effective as this system is, there is still the possibility of mistakes being made. If you cannot find the person you are looking for, but know that they are still incarcerated, you may need to place a call to the sheriff's office.

Communicating with an Inmate Housed at the Adams County Jail in Mississippi

The communication possibilities and guidelines; writing, phone calls, visitation.

Modern technology now plays a part in many jails across the country, with some counties even having video conferencing available so that you can visit your loved ones at any time. If you ask the average inmate, though, they will likely tell you that there is still very little that compares to receiving mail every day. Visits are usually over in a bout 20-30 minutes, but the words in a card or letter can be read over and over again. Jails know that communication with the family is an effective way to keep the population happy, which is why they try to encourage it as much as possible. That doesn't mean that there aren't any rules to be followed, so read on to see what the Adams County jail does when it comes to communication.

Mail

When you write a letter to an inmate in the Adams County jail, you want to send it off knowing that it will get to the intended recipient. In order for that to happen, you have to abide by a few rules. If you can follow these items, your mail will arrive as intended:

  • All mail is inspected for contraband before being delivered. Do not try to slip anything in with the letter.
  • Always include your first and last name on the envelopes, as well as your complete address.

Telephone

The money orders that you send to your loved ones can be used to buy items in the commissary, which includes telephone time. You cannot call into the jail to talk, but the inmates can call out. They can use their own funds or place the call collect. It's worth noting that collect calls are expensive and can very quickly add up.

Since the Adams County jail is home to both male and female inmates, the visitation times are set up so that both genders remain separate at all times. You need to make sure that you only arrive at the jail on the assigned times, as you will not be granted access otherwise, no matter what the reason. Listed below are the current schedules, although these can be subject to change with no prior warning:

  • Women - Saturday from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m. and 1:15 to 4 p.m.
