Visiting an Inmate in the Kaufman County Jail & Sheriff in Texas

The men and women at the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office in Texas believe it is their duty to both serve and protect the people of Kaufman County with fairness, compassion, and respect. One way that they prove this is in the way that they operate their jail facility. In The Kaufman County Jail Facility inmates are allowed to have visits with their family and friends through personal visits.

Visitation is a great way for inmates and their friends and family to stay connected while the inmate is still incarcerated. This opportunity can lift the spirits of the inmate and give him something to look forward to. It also allows the inmate's friends and family keep a relationship with the inmate.

Visitation between inmates and their friends or relatives is allowed; however, there are strict rules that must be followed in order for this visitation to take place.

  • Minors visiting inmates must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or legal counsel.
  • Inmates are only allowed two 25- minute visits per week.
  • These two visits per week may not be on the same day.
  • Only one person may visit an inmate at a time. (A minor with their guardian is the only exception.)

How to use the Inmate Search for Kaufman County Jail & Sheriff in Texas

When searching for a particular inmate in the Kaufman County Jail Facility, there isn't really an extensive process, as in some jails that include entering last names, DOBs, PINs, etc. The search process is actually quite simple.

Here are the steps to searching for and finding someone in the Kaufman County Jail Facility:

  • Go to the Sheriff's Office web page (http://www.kaufmanso.com/index.html).
  • Scroll all the way down and you will see a link on the left that says "Inmate Information." Click on this link.
  • You will then be navigated to a page that has a link that says "Click here for information on inmates." Click on this link. (This link is literally the only thing on the page, so you won't have any trouble finding it!)
  • You will then be taken to a page which allows you to search for inmates by name. Also, there are lists available on this page where you can look through a list of names of all the inmates. These lists are organized by name, by charge, or by intake date.
  • If you decide to search a specific name, you may search by first, middle, and/ or last name. The matching results will appear and give you the first name, middle name, last name, age, race, sex, and intake dates of the inmates.
  • If you search by viewing the list organized by name, you will find a list of all the inmates currently residing in the jail in alphabetical order according to last name. You will also be given the inmates' fist and middle name, age, race, sex, and booking dates.
  • If you search by viewing the list organized by charge, you will first be given a list of charges. Click on the charge you want to search for inmates under. You will then be given a list of all the inmates currently incarcerated for that given crime. You will also be given the inmates' first, middle, and last name, age, race, sex, and booking dates.
  • If the person you want to search has recently been arrested, you might want to search by intake date. When searching by intake date, you enter a specific number of days. You will then be given a list of the first, middle, and last names, age, race, sex, and intake dates of all the inmates that have been arrested within the amount of days that you entered.

If you're not having much luck finding the person you are looking for, it is possible that that person was just recently incarcerated or recently released, and the list hasn't been updated since then. If this is the case, call the Kaufman County Jail Facility at 972-932-4337 or stop by at 1900 E. US Highway 175 in Kaufman Texas to obtain the information you're searching for.

The search method in the Montgomery County Detention Facility is quite simple compared to other jail facilities that make the process much more complicated. However, the list of inmates will always be changing, so keep that in mind when searching for a specific inmate.

Communicating with an Inmate Housed at the Kaufman County Jail & Sheriff in Texas

Communication is the key to keeping up with your friend or family member while they're incarcerated. This can be done through mail and phone calls. This mail and phone calls will not only keep your relationship strong, but it will also give the inmate something to look forward to and give you the feeling that your loved one is still with you.

The Kaufman County Jail Facility in Texas allows inmates to send and receive mail to keep in touch with their loved ones; however, there are some strict rules that need to be followed in order for the inmate to be allowed to send and receive mail.

  • All mail sent to inmates must be sent via USPS. All other methods of shipping are prohibited.
  • The inmate's name must be clearly printed on the letter, along with the inmate's prisoner number, and the jail's address (Kaufman County Detention Facility 1900 E. Us Hwy. 17 Kaufman, TX 75142).
  • Sending packages, padded envelopes, or envelopes that have metal in them are not allowed.
  • All mail sent to inmates is opened and read by jail staff.
  • If the mail is deemed inappropriate, it will be returned to the sender.

The Kaufman County Inmate Handbook states that these mail policies change frequently, so be sure to check the handbook to see if any changes have recently been made. If you have any questions regarding mail, contact the Sheriff's office at 972-932-4337 or stop by at 1900 E. US Hwy. 175 to get your questions answered.

The Kaufman County Jail Facility also allows inmates to make phone calls. As with sending and receiving mail, there are strict rules that must be followed for inmates to be able to take advantage of this privilege.

  • Inmates are allowed to make calls using a pre-approved, pre- paid phone account or phone card.
  • The rates for these calls are generally higher than you would expect to pay elsewhere.
  • There is no limit on how often an inmate may use the phone.
  • Calling is a privilege for the inmate—not a right. If the inmate is not cooperative and compliant, their phone privileges may be taken away partially or completely.

Be sure to follow the rules when sending mail and taking phone calls from inmates. These forms of communication are privileges, not rights. If you would like to know the exact rates charged for phone calls or have any other questions regarding communicating with an inmate in the Kaufman County Jail Facility, contact the Sheriff's Office at 972-932-4337 or stop by at 1900 E. US Hwy. 175.
