Using a Deck of Playing Cards to Work Out in Prison

Two of the most popular past times in prison are exercising and playing cards. Combining them is a fun way to pass the time while staying in shape. Pass this along to someone you know in prison. This is something they can do by themselves, but it is also fun to play the game with others. They will need a deck of cards. Each numbered card is worth its face value. The non-numbered cards hold the following values.
  • Ace      1
  • Jack    11
  • Queen12
  • King    13
Playing Instructions: Choose a starting point. It can be a table in the POD, a bunk in the sleeping area or cell. Place a trashcan a cup, plastic tote, or some other receptacle a few feet away. As you get more skilled at this game, you will be able to move it further away for added challenges. Shuffle a deck of cards and place them face down in a pile. Select the top card off the pile and toss it to the receptacle.  If it lands inside, you get a pass and it is the next person’s turn. If it does not land in the receptacle, you must do as many push-ups or sit-ups as the number on the card. For example, if you missed the receptacle with the number 9 card, you will do nine sit-ups or push-ups.
