Avoiding Relapse: 5 Activities for Bored Teen Addicts

An unfocussed teen addict gets high. Keep your teen addict busy with the following activities.
  1. Sports – Sports provide a great alternative to drugs because they encourage self-respect and staying in good physical condition, which means no getting high.
  2. Jobs – While it can be tricky to juggle school, a job and meetings, it can be done and will keep your teen too busy to worry about what his old drug buddies are up to.
  3. Spirituality – Whether your family is Christian, Mormon, Baha’i, Jewish or some other faith, most places of worship will eagerly accept a teen’s offer to help. Attending services and volunteering for projects will keep him from getting diverted to drugs.
  4. Volunteerism –Sometimes a teen needs to care about something outside of himself and his own existence. Volunteer work will restore his sense of pride and self-worth
  5. Meetings – Encourage him to go to as many meetings as he can each week. Within those meetings he will find friends who are also in recovery.
