About the Augusta Youth Development Campus
Jenkins County is one of the several counties and towns that use the Augusta Youth Development Campus to house juvenile offenders who are assigned to long term treatment and detention with the Department of Juvenile Justice. Most youth who find themselves in this facility, or others like it, are serving a sentence for crimes they are convicted of, or are in need of long term treatments or rehabilitation. The facility meets or exceeds all federal and state regulations and standards, and ongoing training is provided to all staff. Staff not only focus on safety but also on ways to maintain a positive environment that encourages social interactions, which lowers the occurrences of violence or outbursts among residents. Substance abuse treatments are provided in their own units, and there is a medical unit for those who require additional medical supervision or ongoing treatments. Food services provides balanced meals that are designed to meet the nutritional needs of each of the students, and the provided classrooms ensure their education is uninterrupted. Address: 3481 Mike Padgett Hwy, Augusta, Georgia. Any mail must be through the postal service and hand delivered packages are not accepted. Mail will also be checked for contraband before being delivered. Phones: Tablets and phones are provided to ensure youth can call those who are on their approved call list. Each student is provided with a day and time they may make these phone calls and the approved call list will receive notification of that time. Visitation: Visits are an important part of the mental health of students and the atmosphere in the facility, as well as successful reintegration into the community. Both onsite and remove visits are currently available, and the day and time will be provided to each family individually.
