About the Brattleboro Police Dept. Jail
Located within the city of Brattleboro, Vermont, the local Police Department is the main law enforcement agency throughout the area. The small police force not only enforces all the laws within the city but is also able to provide the same services across Windham County. They work in conjunction with the local county law enforcement and the larger agencies that are active across the state and the county. When they arrest an individual, they are taken back to the local police department and booked into the jail holding cells that are attached. The majority of detainees within the building are those who are awaiting their bail hearing or who are expected to make bail soon. It is a temporary holding facility and does not function as a long term detention center or accommodate serving long or extended sentences. Anyone who is found guilty of violent crimes, of serious offences, or who require maximum security will find themselves transferred to the local jail that is operated by the Vermont Department of Corrections. The small holding facility does not accept mail for inmates as they are not in the location long enough, however they will have access to phones during the daytime hours, with blackout periods around meals, and they are able to contact their friends and family who are waiting their release. Lawyer and attorneys are permitted to visit the facility at any time in order to have meeting with their clients and provide legal representation. While within the facility most inmates are awaiting bail or for their sentencing to begin and will be permitted to have visits from friends and family who are one the approved visitor list, and they will be required to contact the facility and book a time to visit. Friends and family can also be notified when the inmate is going to be transferred to another facility, which often occurs after sentencing, where they will be provided with the new contact information and how to schedule visits, add money to the inmate account, and receive phone call.
