Type of Mail Allowed for Pasco County Central Detention Center - Land O' Lakes

Postcards

The Pasco County Central Detention Center - Land O' Lakes only allows inmates to receive correspondence on pre-metered postcards. These can be purchased at the post office, or you can purchase post cards and get them metered (stamped) by the post office when you mail them. Under no circumstances will envelopes be accepted.

Exceptions:

Legal correspondence from courts or attorneys.

You must include a complete return address in upper right corner of postcard. All addressing must be handwritten. Any address labels or stickers will cause the postcard to be rejected.

NOTE: When you take the postcards to the post office, let the clerk know they are going to a jail, correctional facility, etc. and must be pre-metered. This will tell them they need to stamp it on the machine and not put a regular stamp on it.

 

Newspapers

Inmates cannot receive newspapers by mail at this facility.

Magazines

News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher or a source online such as Amazon.com. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books

This jail allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address above.

You may also have them sent directly from the publisher to the jail.

Books must be no larger than: 8 1/2″ x 11″ x 2 1/2″ in size

Books that contain the following will be returned to center and it will be up to the inmate to contact the source for a refund.

The following are also prohibited:

Nudity, Pornographic or Sexually explicit material

Instructions on how to construct or modify electronic equipment

Instructions for developing or constructing weapons or explosives

Anything that supports escape or provides instructions/ideas for escape

Any publication that encourages rioting

Materials advocating racial, religious or national hatred, or institutional violence

Anything that will threaten the safety of the public, staff or inmates

Hard cover books will not be accepted by the jail due to their potential to be used as a weapon.

Care packages

Care packages are pre-chosen items packaged together and sent to the inmate from a third-party vendor. They can include clothing, snacks and seasonal items.

When a jail allows the inmate to receive Care Packages they must come directly from an approved company that specializes in serving the inmates of jails.

This jail does not have a care package program, however, the policy can change at any time.

Mailed Items NOT Allowed

If your inmate is mailed anything other than a pre-metered postcard, it won't get through.

How to address your Inmate's Postcard or Envelope

Policies Regarding Mailing Photos to the Pasco County Central Detention Center - Land O' Lakes

Once an inmate has been in this facility for 30 days or more, he or she may receive photos. There are three methods to get photos to inmates.  

Mailed

The inmate is allowed to receive up to 10 photos in an envelope once every six months. If you mail three the first time, you cannot mail more for six months.

You must handwrite on the outside of the envelope, “PHOTOS ENCLOSED”.

Nothing else can be in the envelope except photos or the entire package will be returned to you.

Emailed

You may email photos to the inmate. He or she can view them at inmate kiosk. There is no limit to the frequency or number of photos you can email. Your inmate will be able to give you his email location for this purpose.

On Postcards

You may have photos printed on postcards. As long as you take the postcard to the post office to be stamped, it becomes a correspondence. You may mail as many of these as you wish.

Important Mail Tips

You cannot mark the photo envelope or postcard with any perfume, stickers, etc.

Mail is always scanned and inspected for contraband, obscenity and other rule infractions.

Assume that everything you write will be read by jail staff and can and will be used against you or your inmate in court.  

Never write anything about the inmate's court case you wouldn't want read aloud in court.

Mail is considered by the jail to be a privilege. Any violations of the mail policies can result in the inmate's mail privileges being suspended.

The introduction of contraband by you into the jail through the mail is a 3rd degree felony in the state of Florida.

Emailing an Inmate

You may send email letters and photos to the inmate.  The inmate can email people but cannot send photos.
There is no limit to the number of photos or number of emails that you can send.

Click here locate your inmate and send a connection request. The inmate must accept your request for email correspondence before you can communicate this way. You can deposit funds to the commissary account in the inmate’s name to pay for emails.

You may also purchase email credits at the site.
