It is highly recommended that prior to an inmate visit you call the jail at 734-585-7247 to confirm that visits have not been cancelled.

Washtenaw County Jail Visiting Hours, Schedule and Instructions


Step 1

Click here to register online to be allowed to schedule visits.

Step 2

Name all who will attend the visit. Those not on the schedule will be turned away.

Step 3

All parties must arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled visit.



Who Can Visit an Inmate in Washtenaw County Jail

Anyone over the age of 18, who isn't on felony probation and can produce a valid government-issued photo ID can be approved to visit an inmate in this jail.

Visitation applicants in Washtenaw County must sometimes submit to a background check. Those with warrants are denied visitation or if allowed to visit, will be arrested at the jail.

If there is a no-contact order in place and you visit the inmate, one or both of you could face legal trouble for violating that order.

If you are on probation, you must get prior permission from your supervising officer before attempting to schedule a visit.

The Washtenaw County Jail reserves the right to deny any person the right to enter the jail it chooses and for any reason.

Visiting Hours in Washtenaw County Jail

Monday-Friday

12:30p-4:50p & 6:15p-6:45p.

The first visit will begin at 12:30 and the last visit will begin at 6:15p.m.

Up to three people may visit an inmate at the same time. All children are included as visitors so it can be three adults, two adults and one child or two children and one adult.

Visits are 30 minutes long, once per week.



Washtenaw County Jail Visitation Dress Code

The Washtenaw County Jail staff will turn anyone away who is not dressed appropriately for a visit.

The best way to be sure the visit takes place is to dress as if you are meeting someone's grandmother for the first time. 

Wear clothes that are not revealing.

Don't wear see-through material.

Have all undergarments covered (males and females) and avoid a lot of cleavage.

Shorts and skirts should reach mid-thigh.

Sleeves should be at least half-way to your elbow.

The following types of clothing are also prohibited:

Clothing promoting gang affiliation.

Anything displaying drugs, weapons or profanity.

Clothing depicting anything obscene.

Washtenaw County Jail Visitation Tips, Rules and Guidelines

You must bring proof of children’s guardianship such as court documents or the child’s birth certificate showing you or the inmate are the child’s parents or legal guardians.

Leave personal belongings in the vehicle.

There are kiosk computers available to use for scheduling visits and visiting in the visitation area of the jail.



'At Home' Video Visitation

Many jails are implementing video visits. These visits are conducted via the Internet on computers, IPADS and Smart phones.

Video visits allow the visit to take place in the privacy of your own home. Some family members 'take their inmate with them' to church, the park, the doctor or anywhere else simply by signing in and bringing the device along.

Video visits save you from having to get your children ready, drive to the jail, wait in long lines and go through security checkpoints just to see the inmate.

Video visitation is slowly gaining favor with all jails in America as jail management realizes the financial savings and reduced security risks involved with remote visitation.
