Following these instructions exactly will enhance your chances of getting official approval to visit an inmate.

It is highly recommended that prior to an inmate visit you call the jail at 513-946-6300 to confirm that visits have not been cancelled.

Step 1

Arrive 10 minutes before you wish to visit the inmate.

Step 2

Show a valid government-issued photo ID.



Who Can Visit an Inmate in Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center

Anyone over the age of 18, who isn't on felony probation/parole and can produce a valid government-issued photo ID can be approved to visit an inmate in this jail.

Children under age 18 must be accompanied by the parent or legal guardian.

Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center Visitation Application Process

Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center does not require visitors to complete a visitation application process. 



Visiting Hours in Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center

Monday – NO VISITS

Tuesday – 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Last name starts with letters A-K

Wednesday - 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Last name starts with letters A-K

Thursday- – 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Last name starts with letters A-K

Friday - 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Last name starts with letters A-K

Saturday – 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.: All inmates

Sunday – NO VISITS

Visits are 15 minutes long.

Each inmate may have one visit per visiting day.

Four visitors including children are allowed to visit the inmate during a visit.

If you are visiting from another state or traveling a great distance, Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center may allow you an extended visitation. Call 513-946-6300 to ask for special consideration.

Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center Visitation Dress Code

The Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center staff will turn anyone away who is not dressed appropriately for a visit.

The best way to be sure the visit takes place is to dress as if you are meeting someone's grandmother for the first time. 

Wear clothes that are not revealing.

Don't wear see-through material.

Have all undergarments covered (males and females) and avoid a lot of cleavage.

Shorts and skirts should reach mid-thigh.

Sleeves should be at least half-way to your elbow.

The following types of clothing are also prohibited:

Clothing promoting gang affiliation.

Anything displaying drugs, weapons or profanity.

Clothing depicting anything obscene.

Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center Visitation Tips, Rules and Guidelines

Things you may bring for the inmate are one pair of prescription glasses without the case or contact lenses without solution and a bible, Quran or Torah.

They must be brought during a visit Tuesday through Friday by 7:30 p.m.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and guardians must provide proof of their guardianship.

Leave all personal belongings, except for your state ID in your vehicle.

Children must be monitored at all times or jail staff will end the visit early.

Many jails are implementing video visits. These visits are conducted via the Internet on computers, IPADS and Smart phones.
