Spartanburg man arrested in Gaffney apartment shooting

A Spartanburg man has been arrested in connection with a shooting earlier this month at Lockhart Lane Apartments in Gaffney, according to Cherokee County Sheriff Steve Mueller.

Mueller stated 30-year-old J.W. Miller III of 340 Arkwright Drive has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of weapon by a person convicted of a violent felony. The incident occurred at 12:35 p.m. March 2 outside of the apartments after an argument.

The shooting victim was identified as 30-year-old Cedric Byron Rogers, who continues to recover, according to Mueller.

Miller was taken into custody Friday afternoon in Spartanburg and transferred to the Cherokee County jail.

Mueller stated the investigation is ongoing and other suspects are being sought in the case.
