Woman dies after crash during chase with deputies

A North Carolina woman died Friday at Spartanburg Medical Center from injuries she suffered in a crash on earlier this week.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger in a statement identified the deceased as 23-year-old  Ciara Kalene Bradley of Caroleen, which is in Rutherford County, North Carolina. She was pronounced brain dead at the hospital, Clevenger stated.

Bradley was a passenger in a vehicle being chased by Spartanburg County sheriff’s deputies when the crash occurred at 11 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Highway 110 and Bud Arthur Bridge Road, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Highway Patrol stated a 2000 Toyota was traveling west on Highway 110 when it struck a 2015 Freightliner tractor trailer while making a left-hand turn from Bud Arthur Bridge Road onto Highway 110. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

The driver of the Toyota was injured and taken to Spartanburg Medical Center for treatment.

Bradley was wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred, according to Highway Patrol. The investigation is ongoing.

Master Deputy Darren Dukes with the Sheriff’s Office would not provide any details about the chase Friday night.
