Baltimore Street apartment, car hit by gun fire

A home and car were shot multiple times on Baltimore Street early Thursday morning.

The Spartanburg Police Department said the incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Officers were dispatched to 754 Baltimore St. in reference to a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found a resident outside his nearby apartment speaking with police. The man said he’d heard loud sounds outside his apartment, later realized they were gunshots and exited his apartment with a handgun to defend his property and waited for police. According to police, the man said he did not fire the gun.

While searching for shell casings, police later discovered a nearby apartment at 760 Baltimore St. had been shot multiple times. Police made contact with people inside the apartment who said they were unaware the home had been hit by gunfire as they slept upstairs.

Police noted shell casings in the grass around the apartments and said at least one round had hit a car parked nearby. The report indicates multiple shots entered the home through a rear side kitchen window and multiple rounds impacted the home’s refrigerator, cabinets and at least one round hit the oven.

A total of 18 shell casings, three fragments and one bullet were recovered, and the report indicated the rounds were 9 mm Luger.
