Depending on the seriousness of the offense, inmate punishment ranges from:

Loss of privileges (phone use, visitation, commissary, time out of cell, etc.)
Period of time in segregation (a.k.a. SHU, Solitary)
Loss of good time, or extension of time incarcerated.
