If an inmate breaks a rule, how is he punished?


Depending on the seriousness of the offense, inmate punishment ranges from:

  • Loss of privileges (phone use, visitation, commissary, time out of cell, etc.)
  • Period of time in segregation (a.k.a. SHU, Solitary)
  • Loss of good time, or extension of time incarcerated.
  • Additional charges that results in a new conviction and more jail or prison time
