As much as you would like to talk to your inmate each day, the cost of inmate phone calls makes this impossible for most people. If your budget can only handle a couple of calls a week, tell your inmate to call you on Thursdays and Sundays.
Thursday phone calls give you almost the entire workweek to take care of business and you will be able to share everything with your inmate when the call comes. You can let him or her know about things happening at work, kids, school, and other important life functions such as bill payments and household repairs.
It also gives you a chance to discuss your weekend plans with your inmate so he or she doesn’t wonder where you will be and what you will be doing. Communication before the weekend can head off any misunderstandings later.
Your inmate may also suffer from Sunday evening blues and knowing he or she gets to talk with you each Sunday can chase those blues away. Wrapping up the weekend with stories about church, picnics, parties, sporting events, visits with family, or local events in your community will give your inmate information and pleasant visuals about your life on the outside. Make sure to take lots of photos of the things you did so you can send them. (Check with the jail to be sure they allow photos before sending any).
Final thoughts: Spacing the calls so that a weekend and a weekday are included adds some structure to your phone life with your inmate and gives you each something to look forward to on a regular basis.
