My boyfriend just failed a drug test in jail! How could that happen?

The one thing you felt a little relief about when your boyfriend went to jail is that he would get clean and sober in there.  Hopefully, once he gets a clear head he will decide to go to rehab when he gets out. But his cellie just called and said your boyfriend is on lockdown for a few days because he failed a drug test today. How in the world did he get high? Several ways including these: Guards: In every jail in the nation there are at least a couple of guards that are willing to bring drugs into the jail for the inmates. Sometimes it is because they too get high and cut a deal that they will get some of the drugs for doing this, but usually it is for cash. The friends or family of one inmate pay the guard to bring it in and give it to the inmate. The inmate then sells the drugs to other inmates. Guards are not searched coming into the jail the way visitors are, so it isn’t difficult for them to get stuff inside. Family and Friends: In some jails, in-person visits are allowed. Guards keep a close eye on people in the visiting areas, but with the quick hug before or after the visit, drugs can be passed to the inmate. In some cases, the guard gets paid to turn a blind eye to it. Once the inmate gets back to the POD he removes the drugs from wherever he has stashed them on his person (many times in the rectum), and he sets up shop to sell them to other inmates, including your boyfriend. Trusties: Lots of cities and counties use jail inmates to clean the streets, repair government buildings and perform other tasks. It is free labor and the trusty gets out of the jail to work for a day. All it takes is a phone call with code words to let a friend or family member know where to make a drop the night beforehand. The trusty gets to work the next day and when he passes the drop spot he picks it up and conceals it until he gets back to his cell. Trusty work is not like in the movies where everyone is chained together and watched at gunpoint. They are free to wander the areas where they are working and the supervising guards do spot checks on a regular basis. Final thoughts: Drugs are in the jails. Not as prevalent as on the street, but readily available. Hopefully, your boyfriend learned his lesson by getting locked down and will take advantage of any AA/NA meetings the jail provides once he is back in general population.
