Parole Home Visit Before His Release from Prison

Parole Home Visit Before His Release from Prison

Your friend is up for parole soon and you want to be sure he can parole to your house. Typically before an inmate can be granted parole, he must have a home plan in place, and that plan must be approved by the local parole office. There are several things you can do to ensure your home meets the standards. Clear all weapons. Felons are not allowed to own or have access to firearms. This includes ammunition. You will need to put any guns, rifles or shotguns at a relative’s home or sell them off. Be sure to also rid your home of ammunition. No sign of drugs or drinking. Obviously, any drugs or paraphernalia must become a thing of the past, but it is also a good idea to remove any artwork, prints, or collectables that promote drug use. While it is not against parole rules to have a huge print of a pot leaf hanging on the living room wall, the parole officer might decide you are advocating the use of illegal drugs, therefore, are not a suitable sponsor for housing your friend. Lose the attitude. Parole officers are rarely nice. In fact they can be downright rude at times. They also hold the freedom of their parolees in their hands. It is smarter to be as polite and welcoming as possible during the home check so that the officer recommends your home as a good placement for your friend. Dogs can be a problem. As unfair as it sounds, a parole officer can refuse placement in your home if you have a dog that he believes could be aggressive. This has to do with him not wanting to be attacked if he every shows up for a surprise home visit. Either house your dog elsewhere until you can discuss it with the officer, or find a new home for the animal, especially if it is one of the known bully breeds. Final thoughts: Once your man is home, you will be glad you took the extra steps to present a perfect picture to the parole officer who came to visit during the home-placement check. Show respect to the officer and there’s a greater chance that your home will be approved. You might enjoy: Pop On Parole
