The sprawling complex of the Herkimer County Correctional Facility covers 74,000 square feet and has three separate housing units along with a full kitchen for meal services, medical unit, and a visiting area. Staff can be reached with questions about bail, visitation, and concerns about an inmate at 315-867-1252.

It was recently built with the ability to expand the capacity of 130 as the community needs grow to 155 beds.. Advanced technology has been installed to upgrade the security of the facility and to allow correctional officers greater control and visibility around the facility. This has improved the safety of both inmates and staff.

Additional programming has been put in place to support the full rehabilitation of each inmate and to help with their transition back into the community after they have completed their sentence.

The ability to remain in contact with loved ones is also a key part of rehabilitation and helps to keep the facility safe by improving the mental health of inmates housed in the area.
