The work release allows inmates who qualify and are sentenced to such in their sentencing hearing, to maintain a daytime job and return to the facility each night to continue serving their sentence. This can be either the job that they had previously or one that has been obtained through the program. These inmates are housed separately and will be required to have reliable transportation to and from their work but are able to keep additional clothing that is required for their job with them in the jail.
Education classes are provided throughout incarceration including GED, TASC, professional and personal growth programs, and job training programs.
A medical staff of two full time and three part time nurses as well as a contracted physician provide all of the medical care for inmates and mental health professionals attend each week to provide mental health services. Inmates may be transported to an optometrist or dentist for any needs that occur during incarceration and officers will remain with them for the appointment then return them to the Madison County Jail.
Religious services and bible studies are provided for those who choose to attend.
Another way that the mental health and the safety of the staff and other inmates is protected is through promoting contact with friends and family who are not incarcerated to provide additional support.
