About the Yonkers City Jail
The Yonkers Police Detention Services is responsible for the operation of the Yonkers City Jail, and it is located within the City Jail on South Broadway. This building consists of Central Booking, Warrants, and the Jail. When someone is arrested within the city they will be taken to central booking where they will go through the booking process of fingerprinting, mugshots, reading and recording the charges, and then they are housed at the jail until their bail hearing, or they will proceed directly to the court. After the hearing they will either be released without bail, released with bail, or transferred to another facility. All medical and health needs are cared for while they are in jail, and they will have a mental health screening if they remain in the facility for a few days. Due to the temporary basis of the holding facility, there are not programs for educational advantages or long term classes, and there are no set visiting hours, but inmates will be permitted to see their lawyers and can have visits from family if approved by the jail staff.
