With 32 beds, this secure detention center houses both juvenile offenders and adolescent offenders who have been arrested, are a risk to public safety, or are considered a flight risk who will not appear to their court date. A juvenile delinquent is a youth under 18, a juvenile offender is a youth 13-15, and an adolescent offender is between 16 and 17 years of age that had their case moved from Criminal Court to Family Court based upon the changes in classifications and changing the ages who are charged as adults or housed in adult facilities. This is a short term facility, so those who have longer sentences will be moved to a long term facility. At the end of their court process the residents will be returned to their community, put on probation, or they will be transferred. Community involvement is key to the success of the programs offered, and they are focused on education, life and social skills, and personal development. All medical, dental, and mental health care is provided.
