Baxter County Detention Center Inmate Search
Mountain Home arrests: locating someone in the Baxter County Detention Center
Baxter County is lake country in the Ozarks, centered on Mountain Home near Norfork and Bull Shoals lakes. The sheriff operates the Baxter County Detention Center on Highway 62 West, with room for about 165 people. Look a person up through the Sheriff's official inmate search for booking date, charges and bond.
This page covers lookups, bond, court, visits, calls, money, mail, medical needs, holds and transfers. The sheriff's roster opens after a short disclaimer; agree to it, then pick current inmates and search by name. Arrests by Mountain Home police, deputies and state troopers are all booked here, so a booking from the last few hours may not be posted yet.
Your first call is the sheriff at 870-425-7000, answered day and night. Ask whether your loved one is still there, what the bond is now, and when the first court date is set. Getting someone out is covered on our bail page, and hearings in Mountain Home on our criminal court page.

↑ Back to the question list3. First appearance timing

↑ Back to the question list4. Courts in Baxter County
Baxter County District Court in Mountain Home hears misdemeanors and first appearances. Felonies are filed in circuit court at the courthouse downtown. More at the Baxter court process page.
↑ Back to the question list5. How bonds work here
The judge may release someone on their own word or set a money bond. You can post the whole amount or pay a licensed bondsman ten percent, which you won't get back. Call 870-425-7000 for the amount and the forms of payment the jail takes. Our Baxter bail guide has more.
↑ Back to the question list6. Appointed counsel
A person who can't afford a lawyer can ask the judge at the first appearance for a public defender.
↑ Back to the question list7. Should I check for warrants before bailing someone out in Baxter County?
It's a smart move. The sheriff publishes a current warrant list. You can also search the person's name on Search ARCourts, Arkansas's statewide court case search, to catch warrants from other places. If something comes up, a lawyer can ask the issuing judge for a bond amount so everything is posted together. Questions about felony case files go to the Circuit Clerk in Mountain Home, who answers at 870-425-3475. If you want a deputy to confirm a warrant, the office phone is 870-425-7000.
↑ Back to the question list8. Visiting days in Baxter County
The sheriff schedules in-person visits by sex and last name. Men are split into letter groups on different weekdays, and women have their own day. Visitors must be on the inmate's approved list and show government ID. Because the schedule has changed before, call or look online first. See Baxter visitation and remote visit options.
↑ Back to the question list9. Phones and tablets
Nobody can ring into the Mountain Home jail, so relatives wait for the inmate to call and pay through an account set up in advance. Keep the account topped up if you want calls on weekends. Calls go out only, on a prepaid or collect basis. Guides: jail calls, messages, tablets.
↑ Back to the question list10. Funding an account
Baxter County inmates use their balance for extra food, stamps, hygiene items and phone credit. Funds left over when someone is released are returned to them, often as a debit card or check. Money on the books buys commissary. See deposit methods and Baxter commissary.

↑ Back to the question list13. Telling the jail about medication
Phone 870-425-7000 and ask that medical staff be alerted. Mention suicide risk immediately.
↑ Back to the question list14. Before you leave for Mountain Home
Call 870-425-7000 to confirm your loved one is still in custody, the bond, and the visiting day for their letter group.
↑ Back to the question list15. What if a federal agency brought the charge?
Postal inspectors, the U.S. Marshals, and the FBI carry out federal arrests. The law groups this county in the Harrison Division, part of the Western District of Arkansas. Harrison has no listed courthouse on the Western District site for that division; check with the clerk at 833-853-0345 to learn the courtroom. Its northwest courthouse is at 35 East Mountain Street, Room 510, Fayetteville, AR 72701. The first hearing comes quickly, before a federal magistrate judge. Pretrial services interviews the defendant and writes a report for the court. Unlike state court, a federal judge won't look up a bail amount. A short hearing under federal bail law sorts out release or detention.
Start on the sheriff's roster. The Marshals in Fort Smith keep records on federal prisoners. Call 479-289-7470 or 479-424-5000 (call either line). The office is at 30 South 6th Street, Room 243, Fort Smith, AR 72901. During the case, the Marshals Service usually keeps them in a nearby jail by contract. When prison time is ordered, the BOP chooses where they serve and the Marshals handle the move. Search on the Bureau of Prisons locator using the register number.
↑ Back to the question list16. ICE hold: how it works for families
- ICE hears about the arrest through fingerprints deputies share. Then ICE might file a detainer at the jail.
- With the I-247A, ICE asks the Mountain Home jail to put off release by no more than 48 hours. Once those 48 hours pass, the detainer runs out.
- Paying the bond will not erase the detainer.
- Immigration officers may take custody in person within that window. If nobody comes, staff should let them go.
- Questions on Arkansas detainers reach ICE staff in St. Rose, Louisiana, 504-318-2360; mail goes to 181 James Drive W, St. Rose, LA 70087.
- A free online tool, the Online Detainee Locator System, tells which center holds them; it needs the A-number and birth country. There's also a name search, which needs the person's full name, native country and birth date.
- ICE itself chooses the detention center.
17. Once a judge orders prison time, how do they get from Mountain Home to state prison?
State prison terms are handled under the ADC. Before that, they remain in the Mountain Home jail until the ADC sends for them, sometimes for months. The ride ends at intake, where they get checked in. Classification staff classify everyone for medical and mental health needs, security level and any gang ties. Then, they go to a prison matched to those results.
To find them, try the ADC online search. Our Arkansas prison page lists prison addresses.
↑ Back to the question list18. Are Baxter County mugshots posted online?
Yes. The Baxter County inmate search puts Baxter mugshots beside each person held. If the photo is missing, ask the Baxter jail.
The sheriff's office chooses which photos go out; media can call 870-425-7000. ICE shares mugshots only through ICE's FOIA form that ICE approves. Federal booking photos are kept private. Marshals policy keeps sharing to three situations: to find an escapee or fugitive, if sharing it would help find them or warn people, or when there's an urgent threat to the community.
