Paris and Booneville: the Logan County Detention Center
Logan County sits between the Arkansas River and the Ouachita foothills, with two county seats, Paris in the north and Booneville in the south. The sheriff runs the Logan County Detention Center in Paris, which has close to 100 beds. Use the Logan County custody search on VINELink to check custody.
This page covers lookups, bond, court, visits, calls, money, mail, medical needs, holds and transfers. VINELink opens the statewide notification search: choose Arkansas and enter the full name. Arrests from Paris, Booneville, Magazine and the Mount Magazine area all come to the same jail on Lowder Street.
Your first call is the sheriff's desk at 479-963-3271. Ask whether your loved one is still held in Paris, what the charges and bond are, and when the first court date is set. Getting someone out is covered on our bail page, and hearings on our court process guide.

↑ Back to the question list4. Two court districts
District and circuit courts meet in Paris for the northern district and Booneville for the southern district. The court papers will say which. See court info.
↑ Back to the question list5. Bond in Logan County
A family can pay the whole bond and get it back at the end if the person keeps every court date. Or a licensed bondsman posts it for a fee of no more than ten percent, which stays with the bondsman. Call the jail for the amount. See bail.
↑ Back to the question list6. Getting a public defender
At first appearance, a person who can't hire an attorney can ask the judge for one. The public defender for the district covers both Paris and Booneville.
↑ Back to the question list7. How do I find out if someone at the Logan County Detention Center has other warrants?
Ask the sheriff's office at 479-963-3271 to check the booking for warrants or holds from other agencies. A name search through Search ARCourts, the Arkansas courts' public case lookup, can reveal cases in either district of the county or beyond. When another warrant exists, an attorney can ask the issuing judge to set bond so everything is posted together. The Circuit Clerk in Paris handles felony case numbers at 479-963-2164. Be cautious of any caller demanding payment by gift card to cancel a warrant.
↑ Back to the question list8. Short visits in Paris
Visits are brief, about 10 to 15 minutes. Bring a photo ID and call ahead for days, since they change. See visits and remote visits.
↑ Back to the question list9. Calls out of Lowder Street

Inmates booked in Paris or Booneville share one account system, and leftover money goes back to the inmate at release. Money on the account buys commissary items and pays for calls. See deposits and commissary.

↑ Back to the question list14. Phone Paris first

↑ Back to the question list15. Charged by federal agents? The steps
Postal inspectors and the ATF make federal arrests. The case goes to the Fort Smith Division of Arkansas's Western District, at the courthouse in Fort Smith: 30 South 6th Street, Room 1038, Fort Smith, AR 72901. Clerk's phone: 833-853-0345. Within a day or so, the person meets a magistrate judge. There will be a short interview from a pretrial officer before court. Money is not how it works in a federal case. A judge looks at flight risk and danger during a bail hearing per the 1984 Bail Reform Act.
Search for them on the county roster. Some federal defendants wait in the Paris jail rented by the Marshals. The Marshals Service branch for the Western District sits at 30 South 6th Street, Room 243, Fort Smith, AR 72901. Call 479-289-7470 or 479-424-5000 (you can call either) to find the person. A federal prison term moves the person from the county jail into the BOP on its own schedule. Search the BOP locator by name to see the prison.
↑ Back to the question list16. ICE hold: how it works at the jail
- ICE hears about most arrests from fingerprints staff send. ICE can then place a detainer with jail staff.
- With a detainer, ICE asks the Paris jail to put off release for up to 48 hours. It's two straight days, measured from release time.
- A posted bond doesn't clear the detainer.
- Within the hold, ICE often sends officers to collect them. If nobody comes, the jail must release them on the local case.
- Loved ones can follow the detainee on the web at the ICE detainee locator, which asks for the A-number plus birth country. No A-number handy? A name search takes the person's full name, the day they were born and country of birth.
- Their next facility is ICE's call.
- If deputies don't know, reach ICE's regional office at 504-318-2360; it is located at 181 James Drive W, St. Rose, LA 70087.
17. How does the move from the Paris jail to state prison work?
Prison sentences are carried out through the state prison system, the ADC. First, the person waits in the local jail while the ADC finds a bed. Reception is next — paperwork, photos and tests. There, officers look at security risk, gang links, and physical and mental health. The final move is a prison that matches their needs.
Families can search for an ADC inmate by name or number on the Division of Correction search. The Arkansas state prison guide covers visits and mail.
↑ Back to the question list18. Can I look at Logan County mugshots on the web?
Yes. You can view Logan County mugshots by name in the Logan inmate roster. Not every Logan entry has a photo yet.
The sheriff's office, 479-963-3271, fields press requests for booking photos that aren't public. For a picture taken by immigration officers, people must use a FOIA request to ICE; the agency may say no. The public and the media can't see federal mugshots. Federal law enforcement holds mugshots back; the Marshals step in only for an escapee or fugitive, for urgent community safety or if posting it may help catch them or alert the public.
