10. What if federal agents made the arrest?

Federal arrests often involve the FBI, the Secret Service, or the Postal Inspection Service. U.S. charges from this area are heard in the Eastern District of California's Sacramento Division, sitting in Sacramento: 501 I Street, Sacramento, CA 95814. Clerk staff there take calls at 916-930-4000. An officer from pretrial services talks with your loved one and reports to the court. An initial court date is held quickly, before a U.S. magistrate judge. Unlike the county, the federal court does not use a preset figure. A short hearing under the federal bail statute settles what conditions apply.

Start on the jail's inmate list first. The district's Marshals staff in Sacramento knows where the person is: 916-930-2030, 501 I Street, Suite 5600, Sacramento, CA 95814. While it's open, the Marshals often hold them in a private jail by contract. After sentencing to prison, your loved one is sent to BOP custody. Once they move, the BOP locator shows where.

11. How will an ICE hold work?

  • When someone is booked, fingerprints go to Homeland Security. ICE can then lodge a detainer.
  • Under a detainer, ICE asks the Red Bluff jail to hold the person pending ICE pickup up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released (8 CFR 287.7(d)). Red Bluff's jail follows California's Values Act (SB 54), releasing people on the local timetable and saving notice to ICE, or a transfer, for a judge-signed warrant or a qualifying violent or serious conviction.
  • A posted bail won't lift an ICE hold.
  • Immigration officers often take custody in person before the time is up. If nobody comes, the sheriff must let them go.
  • Where they're sent is ICE's call and can change.
  • ICE runs cases from Northern California from the San Francisco office, at 630 Sansome Street, Room 590, San Francisco, CA 94111, phone 415-365-8800.
  • Search by A-number on the ICE detainee locator, adding birth country. If you lack the A-number, you can use the exact name together with native country and birth date.

12. How does a move from the Red Bluff jail to the CDCR happen?

Prison sentences are served by the CDCR. Until then, most people stay in the Red Bluff jail until the state schedules the move. Next, they move to an intake center for processing. There, the CDCR checks health and mental health care, any gang affiliation, and their risk level. The next move is a housing unit that suits those results.

To find them, use the CDCR inmate locator. For each unit, open our California prison guide.

13. Can I see Tehama County mugshots online?

The Tehama jail search sometimes fails to open, and Tehama mugshots may not be there anyway. VINELink (Tehama County) is a free backup without photos.

PC 13665 sets the state rule. It is about social media only. It applies to most nonviolent arrests. Police can't post those mugshots online there. Photos posted there expire after 14 days. A judge can also allow a post. Jail websites are outside this law. Most sheriffs in California skip photos anyway.

Want an ICE booking picture? Use a FOIA request to ICE; ICE has to approve it. Call sheriff's staff, 530-529-7900 if you're a reporter asking for a mugshot. U.S. mugshots aren't released to residents or reporters. The Marshals Service, which handles them, shares one only in rare cases: to find a fugitive or escaped inmate, to aid an arrest or alert people or when it is required immediately to keep the community safe.

15. Does an I-5 warrant arrest near Corning end at Oak Street?

Yes. Warrant arrests along Interstate 5 from Corning to the county seat are booked at the Oak Street jail. The Walnut Street court clerk, 530-527-3484, handles case questions and can help you get a new date. The Sheriff's Office takes warrant calls and looks at statewide records too. The court's online services cover fines and forms. If you carry a warrant, local counsel can set your surrender, so the trip to Oak Street happens on a day you choose, with a lawyer at your side.
