The administration and support areas are housed in a single-story building, which includes intake, kitchen, laundry, medical suite, jail administrative functions, and inmate visitation. The main inmate housing area is a single-story building with a mezzanine, housing inmate cells, dayrooms, and a control area for the guards.
Operated by the Winn Parish Sheriff's Office, the Winn Parish Detention Center holds both Winn Parish detainees and a small number of inmates for the Louisiana Department of Corrections. The new facility, located on Thomas Mill Road in Winnfield, replaced the aging facility previously situated on the third floor of the Winn Parish Courthouse.
Visitation at the Winn Parish Detention Center is conducted through a video visitation system, ensuring no physical contact between visitors and inmates. Currently, the facility does not accept packages for inmates. However, inmates are able to purchase necessary items through the commissary.
