About the Zanesville Police City Jail
The Zanesville Police City Jail is located with the police department and is a small temporary holding facility. As a temporary facility most inmates remain only for a few hours or days, generally while being processed and waiting for bail to be paid or their arraignment to proceed. Others may be held while awaiting a local trial, however for serving a sentence that is longer there will be a transfer to a larger facility with the capabilities to offer long term housing and support. To provide the best service, there are two cells included within the jail for juvenile offenders who have recently been arrested and are waiting to be transported to a juvenile facility. They are unable to interact with the adult detainees whenever possible, and are not left unsupervised with the adults during their stay. Of the twenty seven adult cells at the location, some will hold female detainees while others will hold the male detainees, and they are not housed in the same cells. Two holding cells are also present. These large rooms have space for many individuals who have been arrested and are being processed or being held after processing before being taken to their assigned cell. The police department is open to the public, and for visitations, from 7:30am until 4pm on weekdays.
