About the Pike County Jail & Sheriff
In Waverly, Ohio the county jail and Sheriff share space in a large brick building that fits easily into its surroundings. This smaller jail holds 194 inmates at any time and maintains over 50 staff to manage the jail. On average their daily intake and processing is 13 people. People who are arrested within Pike County are processed through the facility and remain until their arraignment is held, and until they can make bail. Long term stays are most often transferred to larger facilities nearby, but short sentences may be served at this facility to stay close to their community. Allowing visitors can help improve the success rates of inmates after their release, so it is beneficial to keep those serving short sentences within their own community. They are also allowed to receive mail including letters and small packages, however each will be searched before being passed to the inmate and all contraband is removed. A kiosk within the facility allows for friends and family to add money to the canteen account of inmates, or it can be done online. Visitors may book a visit in advance, and are able to visit for 30 minutes during the hours provided for their housing unit. General Population has visits Friday 8:30-11:30am, 12:45-2:45pm, and 6:45-10:30.
