About the Alfalfa County Jail
Cherokee, Oklahoma, has a three story concrete building that houses their jail and sheriff's office. The Sheriff Office and their officers are responsible for the care of all inmates within the jail and maintaining the jail itself. The small holding facility has space for 14 inmates and is not used for serving sentences. Inmates are held here while they are being booked, and until they have had their arraighment or first appearance and either made bail or are being transferred. This short term holding facility is the main booking facility for the area, however, does not hold juveniles. Online lookup can help to determine where an inmate is being held, how long they are being held for, and what charges they are facing. This allows friends and family to locate anyone they know that has been arrested and arrange bail, visits, mail, or phone calls. Inmates are encouraged to maintain outside connection to ease their release and help them reintegrate into society. For this purpose there are visiting hours Monday to Friday 12pm to 8pm and weekends from 10am until 6 pm. On average 9 people are booked in the facility every day, and the jail is staffed at all times to care for the health and safety of inmates.
