McCormick County Inmate Search: Tracing an Arrest to Cecil Wall Circle

Whether a sheriff's deputy, town patrolman or state trooper made the stop, every adult arrest here is booked at the McCormick County Detention Center, 141 Cecil Wall Circle, McCormick, SC 29835. Below, a worried family can learn to confirm custody first. Then come the charges, free counsel, NCIC video, scanned letters, account deposits, warrants and the calendar.

Begin at the official inmate lookup. Its records may lag behind a booking or release by several hours. For that reason, jail staff remain the final word on who sleeps inside tonight.

Ring the Cecil Wall Circle desk at 864-852-0058, and have the legal name and birthday handy. Then get the booking number, each charge and the bond status. How release works is laid out on our bail page, while hearing steps fill our court page.

1. How can I learn if McCormick County has them in custody?

The jail here is small, so a quick call often beats a screen. Follow these steps in order:

  1. Open the official inmate lookup and type the last name first.
  2. Jot down any booking number, booking date or charge that appears.
  3. Next, phone the Detention Center at 864-852-0058, even when the lookup shows a match. Booking staff on Cecil Wall Circle can say if the person is still inside at this hour.
  4. Spell the full legal name. Then give a birth date, so staff can tell apart two people who share a name.
  5. Ask what the booking number is. That is the jail's own term, and mail, deposits and NCIC sign-ups all call for it.
  6. For a statewide check, open VINELink South Carolina. It reports whether someone is held and in which facility.

The jail's postal address is 141 Cecil Wall Circle, McCormick, SC 29835.

2. Their name brings up nothing. What now?

An empty search seldom spells trouble. The usual explanations:

  • Booking still underway. Fingerprints and photos come before any record appears.
  • Bond already posted. State law allows four hours from posting to release, so some people walk out quickly.
  • Arrested across the line. A stop in Greenwood, Abbeville or Edgefield leads to that county's jail instead.
  • A federal or ICE hold. Those cases may move the person to a jail the U.S. Marshals or ICE choose.
  • A minor. Children go to juvenile detention under DJJ, not to the adult jail.
  • A spelling twist. Try hyphenated, maiden and middle names.

When nothing turns up, call the jail at 864-852-0058. For arrest reports and records, try the Sheriff's Office, 211 West Augusta Street Extension, McCormick, SC 29835, 864-465-2520.

3. Is Cecil Wall Circle the only jail they could be in?

For adults arrested here, yes. This county runs a single jail, the Detention Center at 141 Cecil Wall Circle, McCormick, SC 29835, 864-852-0058. The Sheriff's Office operates it.

Families often mix it up with McCormick Correctional Institution, 386 Redemption Way, McCormick, SC 29899, 864-443-2114. That one is a state prison run by SCDC for men already sentenced, so a fresh arrest never lands there.

Stops just over the line end up in a neighboring county's cells. Phone these three:

4. Will Cecil Wall Circle hand over a booking photo?

Booking photos are something you ask for, so don't count on finding one by searching. Call the jail at 864-852-0058 and ask how the Sheriff's Office handles photo requests. Reporters and others may file a written Freedom of Information Act request with the Sheriff's Office, 211 West Augusta Street Extension, McCormick, SC 29835, 864-465-2520. State law gives the agency ten working days to reply, or 20 for records older than two years (S.C. Code 30-4-30(C)).

A 2016 law, S.C. Code 17-1-60, helps when a case falls apart. Send any site displaying the photo a certified letter with papers showing a dismissal, an expungement or an acquittal. It then gets 30 days to delete the picture and may charge nothing.

Immigration photos go through the ICE FOIA request form. Washington keeps its own booking pictures sealed, with one twist. Marshals chasing a fugitive sometimes publish a face to help find them.

5. Could VINE ping my phone when custody changes?

Sign up with VINELink South Carolina. Beyond victim alerts, VINE reports custody status and the facility name. Registered users hear about any change by text, email or automated call, at no cost.

  • Search by name, then choose the right person from the results.
  • Choose the contact method that suits you and confirm it.
  • Rather talk to a person? Call SC VINE at 866-727-2846, which works in English and Spanish.

Victims and family members alike may enroll. Still, a call to the jail at 864-852-0058 confirms any alert before you drive anywhere.

6. What sets bond after a McCormick County booking?

South Carolina puts a magistrate or town judge in front of every arrestee for bond inside a 24-hour limit (S.C. Code 22-5-510). Most people have a right to bail (S.C. Const. art. I, § 15). Murder, or a charge that risks death or a life term, is different: a circuit judge alone decides.

  • A personal recognizance bond frees the person on a promise, with no cash.
  • Cash and surety bonds need money, either from the family or through a licensed bondsman.
  • Paperwork done and money paid, release must follow within four hours.

The hearing time and place, and how to pay, come from the jail at 864-852-0058 or the magistrates, 211 Augusta Street Extension, McCormick, SC 29835, 864-852-2316. Read our McCormick bail and release page for bond types and fee limits.

7. Who reads out the booked charges?

Booking staff can read the charge list over the phone at 864-852-0058. Write each one down word for word, plus any statute number.

The magistrates sign most local arrest warrants. Their office, 211 Augusta Street Extension, McCormick, SC 29835, 864-852-2316, can explain what a warrant charges. Once a case climbs to General Sessions, the Clerk of Court at the McCormick County Courthouse, 133 South Mine Street, Room 102, McCormick, SC 29835, 864-852-2195, keeps the file. The clerk answers weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

A quick guide to labels: felonies run from Class A, up to 30 years, down to Class F, up to 5. On the misdemeanor side, Class A means up to 3 years, B up to 2 and C up to 1 (S.C. Code 16-1-20).

8. How does a McCormick County defendant get a free lawyer?

Can't cover a private attorney's fee? The court can appoint a public defender. Applicants swear to their income on a court form and owe $40, an amount the clerk may cut or drop (S.C. Code 17-3-30, 17-3-45).

  • The local public defender works from 133 South Mine Street, McCormick, SC 29835, 864-852-9555.
  • That office belongs to the 11th Circuit, which also serves Edgefield, Lexington and Saluda. Its main line is 803-785-8873.
  • Above them sits the SC Commission on Indigent Defense, 1330 Lady Street, Suite 401, Columbia, SC 29201, 803-734-1343.

Speak up about wanting counsel at the 24-hour bond hearing. Family members can phone the defender's office too, but only the defendant can sign the form.

  2. Send in the visitor details NCIC requests and wait for approval.
  3. Pick a time slot and log in a few minutes early from a phone or computer.

A funded balance covers commissary snacks, soap and other hygiene goods, NCIC video time and medical copays. Deposits arrive by three routes:

  • Lobby kiosk. At 141 Cecil Wall Circle, McCormick, SC 29835, the kiosk takes cash, credit or debit. Each deposit carries a $3.00 fee.
  • Money order by mail. Only USPS money orders count. Make it payable to the detention center, and write the person's name on the "for" line.
  • Online. The county's jail web page links an online store for deposits. Service fees may apply.

Commissary orders close Wednesday at 8:00 a.m., and items arrive Thursday morning. Unsure of a balance? Phone 864-852-0058. General help sits on our deposit guide, and store basics on our commissary page.

11. Can they phone, video chat or send messages?

Electronic messages run through the same NCIC account as video visits. A letter costs $0.25 to send, and a photo or document costs $0.35.

For outgoing phone calls, rates and how to load a phone account, ask the jail at 864-852-0058. Families can't ring a person inside directly, so wait for their call or set up a video visit.

Broader tips live on two pages of ours: jail calls and inmate messaging.

12. Where does letter mail go now that it's scanned?

Since April 2, 2026, personal mail goes to a scanning center: PO Box 591, Longview, TX 75606. Staff there scan each item and deliver it to the person electronically. The paper originals are destroyed, not sent back.

  • Address every piece with the person's full name, booking number and your full return address.
  • Stick to 8.5 x 11 sheets, five pages at most, one side only.
  • Put just one photo in each envelope. Extra photos get returned.
  • Skip magazines, newspapers, books, bulk mail, cash and personal checks.

Legal and medical mail is the exception. Send it to 141 Cecil Wall Circle, McCormick, SC 29835, and call 864-852-0058 with questions. Our jail mail page has more general advice.

13. How are belongings released from the McCormick County jail?

Clothing, keys, phones and wallets go into storage at booking. Most of it walks out the door with its owner at release.

When a relative must collect them instead, phone 864-852-0058 first. Ask about pickup hours, whether the person has to put your name on a signed release, and how any account balance comes back. Bring photo ID to 141 Cecil Wall Circle, McCormick, SC 29835.

If the person goes on to an SCDC prison, ask before the move what happens to items the prison won't accept.

14. Who handles sick calls and injuries behind bars here?

Inmates ask for care by entering a sick call on the jail kiosk. That covers medical, dental and mental health needs. Copays come out of their account:

  • $5.00 for each medical request
  • $3.00 for each prescription refill
  • $1.00 for each pack of over-the-counter medicine

Health details stay private unless the person signs a consent form. If you know of a medicine they need or a serious condition, tell jail staff at 864-852-0058 right away. To report sexual abuse or harassment under PREA, use 864-852-0070.

15. Does a McCormick County warrant name them?

The Sheriff's Office, 211 West Augusta Street Extension, McCormick, SC 29835, 864-465-2520, handles warrant service across the county. Inside town limits, the McCormick Police Department serves them as well. The magistrates, who issue most local warrants, can check a name by phone at 864-852-2316. South Carolina's probation agency keeps a Most Wanted Offenders list. Washington's version, the U.S. Marshals 15 Most Wanted, covers national cases. Resolving one means surrendering where it was signed, ideally with your attorney present, or getting that court on the phone to reschedule. Mine Street bench warrants belong to the Clerk of Court, 133 South Mine Street, Room 102, McCormick, SC 29835, 864-852-2195.

↑ Back to the question list

16. Where do I get the next hearing date?

Each court books its own calendar. Match the charge level to an office:

  • Bond, traffic and smaller charges: the magistrates, 211 Augusta Street Extension, McCormick, SC 29835, 864-852-2316.
  • Felonies and serious misdemeanors in General Sessions, plus Family Court: the Clerk of Court, 133 South Mine Street, Room 102, McCormick, SC 29835, 864-852-2195.

Defense counsel is mailed every notice too. Stage by stage, our court process page maps where a local case goes.

17. Federal charges: who knows where the person sits?

Greenwood Division handles federal arrests from this county for the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina. Its judges sit in Anderson, at 315 South McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC 29624. Locals know the place as the G. Ross Anderson, Jr. Federal Building. For phone questions, use the Greenville clerk's office, 250 East North Street, Greenville, SC 29601, 864-241-2700.

  • At the first appearance, a judge decides on release or detention (18 U.S.C. 3142).
  • Pretrial, the Marshals Service picks the jail. Ask their Greenville office, 300 East Washington Street, Room 232, Greenville, SC 29601, 864-232-1566, where the person sits.
  • Once sentenced, the prisoner shifts into Bureau of Prisons hands. The BOP inmate locator tracks them from then on.

18. What if immigration agents take over custody?

An immigration hold tends to follow five steps:

  1. Cecil Wall Circle gets an ICE detainer, labeled Form I-247A.
  2. Under that request, jailers can keep the person up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released (8 CFR 287.7(d)).
  3. ICE officers take custody during that window and move the person to an immigration facility.
  4. Find them through the ICE Online Detainee Locator. Type the A-number. If you lack it, use the full name and pick the birth country.
  5. Reach the ICE office serving South Carolina at 3950 Faber Place Drive, North Charleston, SC 29405, 843-746-9800.

South Carolina adds its own rule. Within 72 hours of a criminal booking, a jail checks immigration status. People found unlawfully present are reported to Homeland Security (S.C. Code 23-3-1100). At bond hearings, judges weigh unlawful presence and flight risk as well (S.C. Code 22-5-510(D)(4)).

↑ Back to the question list

19. After sentencing, how do I find an SCDC prisoner?

Ninety days or fewer? That time is normally spent locally, in the county jail (S.C. Code 24-3-30). A longer sentence goes to the South Carolina Department of Corrections, which chooses the prison (S.C. Code 24-3-20).

  • Every newcomer starts with a classification stage called reception and evaluation. Face-to-face visits resume once it ends, or sooner if it drags beyond 30 days.
  • Search the SCDC inmate search. Expect daily refreshes, with county jail people left out.
  • Phone the SC VINE line at 866-727-2846 to track custody, or SCDC headquarters, 4444 Broad River Road, Columbia, SC 29210, 803-896-8500.
  • Prison details are on our South Carolina prisons page.
↑ Back to the question list

20. What if the McCormick County arrest involves a minor?

Most people under 18 are handled in Family Court (S.C. Code 63-19-20(1)). There is one carve-out. General Sessions keeps 17-year-olds whose felony falls in Classes A to D, along with any felony charge carrying at least 15 years.

  • Adult cells may hold a child for six hours, no longer. No one 10 or under may be locked up there (S.C. Code 63-19-820).
  • A Family Court judge reviews detention in 48 hours, skipping weekends and holidays (S.C. Code 63-19-830).
  • Teens held before trial usually wait at DJJ's Columbia lockup, the Juvenile Detention Complex, 1725 Shivers Road, Columbia, SC 29210, 803-896-9440.

The DJJ office for Edgefield, McCormick and Saluda counties sits at 504 Main Street, Edgefield, SC 29824, 864-445-8138. Parents can learn there which building has their child and what the next step is.

21. Deputy, town officer or trooper: who made the arrest?

Only a few agencies make arrests in this county. Each one books into the jail on Cecil Wall Circle:

  • Sheriff's Office: patrols Plum Branch, Parksville and every other area outside town limits, and runs a boat patrol on the water. 211 West Augusta Street Extension, McCormick, SC 29835, main line 864-465-2520, non-emergency dispatch 864-465-3211.
  • McCormick Police Department: covers the town itself. 119 West Augusta Street, McCormick, SC 29835, business line 864-852-2985.
