Claude has had no working jail since 2022, so Armstrong County prisoners go north to the Carson County Jail in Panhandle. Other neighboring counties with jails: Potter County Detention Center (Amarillo, northwest), Randall County Jail (Canyon, west), Gray County Jail (Pampa, northeast), Donley County Jail (Clarendon, east) and Swisher County Jail (Tulia, southwest). Briscoe County, to the south, also has no jail. Armstrong County has used Potter County for housing in the past, so a person can sometimes be held in Amarillo. Claude has had no lockup since 2022; Armstrong deputies (806-553-6933) take every prisoner to the Carson County Jail in Panhandle.
