About the Addison County Jail & Sheriff
Located within Addison County and the city of Middlebury, this facility has 114 beds and houses adult inmates only. It is considered a minimum security facility that is intended to house short term inmates as well as those who are charged with nonviolent crimes throughout their trial and sentence. They average over 3,000 bookings each year, and are the main facility that is used for booking all newly arrested detainees in the area. Not only do they do the booking for the sheriff but also other law enforcement in the area, both federal and state, as well as all of the fingerprinting for those in the community who require them for jobs or for volunteering opportunities. There are many ways that friends and family can support an inmate while they are incarcerated, beginning with funding their account so they can access the commissary for clothing and hygiene needs, as well as phone calls and visits. These accounts can be funded in the lobby of the jail either at the front counter or through a kiosk in the lobby. Inmates are permitted access to phones during the day, beginning after breakfast and going to the lock down times in the evening, and are able to use the phone each day. To receive phone calls you must be on the list of those they are permitted to call, and be approved by the jail staff as there are some who are not allowed to have contact with inmates including those who have recently been released from the facility or those who have been charged in the same case. Visits are permitted on weekends from 9am until 3pm and can be booked any day during the week by calling the facility.
