About the Grand Isle County Jail & Sheriff
As the Sheriff of Grand Isle County is responsible for all of the law enforcement and emergency responses throughout the county, they have access to a small holding facility that houses primarily those who have been newly arrested and booked but have not yet had their trial or been sentenced. Sentenced inmates are moved to a larger facility nearby that serves this county and other counties nearby with increased services and programs to assist in the rehabilitation of these inmates. The small local holding facilities are intended to keep short sentences and those who will be bailed out quickly within their own communities so they can transfer easily back into their regular daily life after they are released and are not set up for long term incarceration> With space for more than 110 inmates this facility meets the daily needs of the arrests by local law enforcement and can house more in an emergency. Inmates are permitted to make outgoing phone calls from the facility and will have access to the phone banks each day of their incarceration, however incoming phone calls are not permitted, and all calls will be monitored for content and can be ended at any time by jail staff. Visits are also monitored and may occur during the week between the hours of 7:30am and 9pm, and should be scheduled with the staff in advance to ensure the inmate and the space is prepared for the visit. Only approved visitors that are dressed appropriately and have photo identification with them will be permitted to attend any visit, and all children must be supervised by an adult at all times.
