About the Rutland County Jail & Sheriff
Rutland County, Vermont is located on 9,620square miles of land and has a population of just under 640,00. The local sheriff department is responsible for the majority of the law enforcement within the area, enforcing road rules and regulations, serving all active warrants, booking inmates, and process serving for civil matters. Other responsibilities include transporting inmates from the jail to the court and back, providing security for the courthouse, and transporting those who are having a mental health crises to the correct location for emergency treatment. It is the sheriff office who respond to emergency phone calls, including 911 calls, and the dispatch is run through this facility. Local fingerprinting for the community is also completed here and is necessary for some job and volunteering opportunities. Locally arrested detainees are not housed for long at the sheriff office, but are transported to the local jail located within Rutland, the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility. This location has visiting hours on weekends, beginning at 8:15am and running until 10:35pm on both Saturdays and Sundays, with the exact hours being determined by the housing until that the inmate is located within. While housed in this facility inmates will have daily access to phone calls during dayroom use and they will be permitted to both send and receive mail through the US Postal Service as alternative ways for them to remain in contact with their friends and family.
