About the Windsor County Jail & Sheriff
Covering an area of land in southwestern Vermont, Windsor County covers 927 square miles and has several small towns that are within the area. With a total of 24 towns and all of the rural areas that surround them, this small county has a community that works together to keep a safe and comfortable living area for all residents. As a part of their duties the sheriff supplies security to the courts, transportation for inmates and offenders between jail and courts, monitors and enforces road rules and laws, serves all active warrants and delivers court papers and summons for civil matter. Operating the small local jail is also part of the duties of the sheriff’s office and they accept mail, provide access for outgoing phone calls, and arrange visits as well as provide food and clothing for inmates. All medical care is provided as needed, and inmates are safely transferred to larger facilities to serve their sentence after the trial has ended. Visits are permitted twice a week and must be scheduled with the facility in advance to take place during the hours of 8 :15am an 4pm. To schedule a visit the visitor must contact the facility and ensure that the inmate will be available at the time that they want to visit, and must arrive on time to clear security with a government issued ID. Only approved visitors are permitted, and these will not include those who have been recently released from any jail facility, anyone who is involved in the same case as the inmate, or those who are underage and not accompanied by an adult.
