Sweetwater County Detention Center Inmate Search
Sweetwater County Inmate Search: Who Is Held at the Rock Springs Jail
Every adult arrested by deputies, Rock Springs police or Green River police goes to the Sweetwater County Detention Center, 50140 US Highway 191 South, Rock Springs, WY 82901. The building dates to 2005 and has room for more than 200 people, including some passing through from other places. This page walks you through finding someone there, plus visits, money, mail and property.
Start with the official inmate search, a public roster that refreshes every three hours. Look for the last name, then open the entry to see the charges, the bond and the court. If the name is missing, the booking may be too new, or the person may already be out. Anyone under 18 is left off the list.
Need an answer now? Call central control at 307-352-4911 and give the person's full name. Ask if they are being held, what the charges are, and whether any other hold could keep them in. Our guide to posting bail explains release, and our court page explains hearings.
1. Where's the Sweetwater County inmate list?
- Open the Current Inmates list.
- Scroll or use your browser's find tool to look for the last name.
- Click the entry to see age, hometown, booking type, booking date and the arresting agency. Some entries also give a planned release date.
- Read the charge lines. Each charge lists its status, bond number, bond type and amount, and the court handling it.
Wyoming allows jails to share who is held, where, and the day they get out (W.S. 7-19-106(m)). For anything the list leaves unclear, call Central Control at 307-352-4911.
↑ Back to the question list2. What if their name doesn't show up?
- Timing. The list updates about every three hours, so a fresh booking may lag.
- Already released. Check the Past Inmates list. It shows release dates and, when one was used, the bond company.
- A minor. Kids are kept off the public list.
- Spelling. Search a middle name, a maiden name or a different spelling.
- Another jail. A warrant from elsewhere may land them in a different county. See below.
Central booking can answer at 307-352-4935.
↑ Back to the question list3. Could they be in a neighboring jail?
Every arrest in the county goes to the Detention Center on US 191. People arrested on the road, or wanted by another county, could be in:
- Carbon County Jail, 1302 East Daley Street, Rawlins, WY 82301, 307-324-2776.
- Fremont County Detention Center, 460 Railroad Street, Lander, WY 82520, 307-332-1858.
- Lincoln County Detention Center, 1040 Justice Center Drive, Suite A, Kemmerer, WY 83101, 307-877-2169.
- Sublette County Detention Center, 35 1/2 S. Tyler, Pinedale, WY 82941, 307-367-4378.
- Uinta County Detention Center, 77 County Road 109, Evanston, WY 82930, 307-783-1020.
- Summit County Jail, 6138 Paintbrush Road, Park City, UT 84098, 435-615-3723.
- Moffat County Sheriff's Office in Colorado, 800 West 1st Street, Suite 100, Craig, CO 81625, 970-824-4495.
- Daggett County Sheriff's Department in Utah, 95 North 1st West, Manila, UT 84046, 435-784-3255. That county's jail closed in 2017.
Sometimes a court in another part of Wyoming sets bond on a video link with the person still in Rock Springs. The people helping them then have a single day, 24 hours, to pay; transport may follow after that (W.R.Cr.P. 46.1(g)).
↑ Back to the question list4. Can I see a Sweetwater County booking photo?
The roster shows text only. Under state law, each jail chooses whether to give out a booking photo (W.S. 7-19-106(m)). Call the Sheriff's Office at 307-922-5300 to ask, or reach the Records Division at 307-922-5305. Records copies cost $5 each.
Photos from a state prison stay with the Department of Corrections; call 307-777-5889. Images held by ICE are requested at ice.gov's records page.
↑ Back to the question list5. Can I be told when they're released or moved?
Yes. The Sheriff's Office points people to VINE. It's free and runs day and night. Search the name, then sign up for a call, text or email when custody changes. Phone sign-up works too: 866-994-8463.
Crime victims get extra support from the County Attorney's Victim/Witness Program: Rock Springs 307-922-5264 or Green River 307-872-3829.
↑ Back to the question list6. Where do I see the bond?
Each charge line on the roster shows the bond type and dollar amount. Some charges show $0; ask booking what that means for release. Before going to pay, call booking at 307-352-4935. Ask where to pay, what forms of payment work and at what times. Watch out for scam calls asking for bail money for a jailed relative; the Sheriff has warned about them. Our bail guide has the full process.
↑ Back to the question list7. How do I learn more about the charges?
The roster lists every charge and the court in charge of it. Misdemeanors go to one of two Circuit Courts. The Rock Springs Circuit Court is at 50140C US Hwy 191 South, Suite 200, Rock Springs, WY 82901, 307-922-5220. Call the Green River Circuit Court at 307-872-3800. Felonies are filed in District Court; its clerk's criminal line is 307-922-5249. The County Attorney decides which charges to file.
↑ Back to the question list8. Can they get a public defender?
If they can't afford a lawyer, they should say so at their first court hearing. The judge checks their money situation (W.S. 7-6-106). A jailed person with no access to cash is assumed to qualify. Families may hire a private lawyer instead. To find out which public defender office serves this area, call the main state office: 316 West 22nd Street, Cheyenne, WY 82002, 307-777-7519.
↑ Back to the question list9. How do I set up a visit at the Sweetwater County jail?
The jail decides how visits work and when they happen. Phone Central Control at 307-352-4911 before you go and ask:
- Which days and hours visits are offered
- Whether visits happen on-site, by video from home or both
- How far ahead to schedule
- What ID is needed, and whether kids may come along
Our visiting guide lists common jail rules.
↑ Back to the question list10. How can relatives fund a Sweetwater County inmate's account?
The Sheriff's Office says relatives can load money with the online commissary service linked on the Sheriff's Detention page. Money on the account pays for snacks, hygiene items and other extras. For questions about deposits, fees or other ways to pay, call 307-352-4911. See our money guide and the commissary guide for general tips.
↑ Back to the question list11. Can someone in the Rock Springs jail call me?
Inmates can usually make outgoing calls once an account is set up. Jail staff can say which phone company handles calls and how to add money for them. Call 307-352-4911. Calls are normally recorded, so stay away from details of the case. Our phone guide and messaging guide have more.
↑ Back to the question list12. How should letters to a Sweetwater County inmate be addressed?
Call Central Control at 307-352-4911 to confirm the mailing format before you send anything. Ask whether to include a booking number and which items are allowed. The jail's street address is 50140 US Highway 191 South, Rock Springs, WY 82901. Always add your full return address, and send books only after staff say how. Our mail guide lists common rules.
↑ Back to the question list13. How can I collect their personal property?
When someone is booked, staff store their belongings. Most items go home with them at release. To pick up keys or a wallet sooner, call booking at 307-352-4935. Ask whether the inmate must sign a form first, and bring photo ID. Anything kept as evidence remains with the arresting agency.
↑ Back to the question list14. Does the jail have medical staff?
The jail has its own medical staff. Call Central Control at 307-352-4911 right away for serious health needs. Share each medicine's name and dose and the doctor's phone number. Ask staff how they confirm prescriptions. For an emergency outside the jail, call 911.
↑ Back to the question list15. Does someone have a Sweetwater County warrant?
Deputies serve county warrants, and city police in Rock Springs and Green River handle their own. To ask about a warrant, call the Sheriff's Office at 307-922-5300. Wyoming offers no single statewide warrant lookup, so court clerks check names by phone. If there's a warrant, turning yourself in alongside an attorney is safest. Some people ask the clerk to give them a new court date. District Court clerk: 80 West Flaming Gorge Way, Suite 255, Green River, WY 82935, 307-872-3820.
↑ Back to the question list16. Where do I find the court date?
The roster names the court for each charge. Call that court for the date:
- Circuit Court in Rock Springs, for misdemeanors: 307-922-5220
- Circuit Court in Green River, for misdemeanors: 307-872-3800
- District Court clerk, Rock Springs office: 307-922-5246
- Rock Springs Municipal Court, 212 D Street, Rock Springs, WY 82901, 307-352-1550. Arraignments start at 9 a.m.
- Green River Municipal Court, 375 W Flaming Gorge Way, Green River, WY 82935, 307-872-0550. First appearances happen Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9 a.m.
The county also posts a weekly District Court schedule. Each kind of hearing is explained in our court guide.
↑ Back to the question list17. Could the case be federal?
People charged with federal crimes are watched over by the U.S. Marshals Service. Its district office: 2120 Capitol Avenue, Suite 1100, Cheyenne, WY 82001, 307-829-3710. A federal judge rules at a detention hearing on whether the person goes home before trial (18 U.S.C. 3142). After sentencing, check the BOP inmate finder.
↑ Back to the question list18. What happens with an immigration hold?
- Immigration officers fax or send Form I-247A, a detainer, to the jail.
- Because of it, the person may stay up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released (8 CFR 287.7(d)).
- ICE agents then pick them up.
- Use the ICE Online Detainee Locator. Search by A-number, or try the full name and the country of birth.
ICE's Denver Field Office oversees this area: 12445 E. Caley Avenue, Centennial, CO 80111, 720-873-2899.
↑ Back to the question list19. Where do people from here serve prison time?
Felony prison terms are served with the Wyoming Department of Corrections. A few shorter sentences, weekend ones included, are done at the county jail. Find a state prisoner on the WDOC search page. Each prison is described in our Wyoming prison pages. WDOC headquarters: 1934 Wyott Drive, Suite 100, Cheyenne, WY 82002, 307-777-7208.
↑ Back to the question list20. Where are Sweetwater County youth detained?
The jail has a separate youth area, a juvenile detention center inside the same complex. It's one of only four county jails in Wyoming with its own juvenile unit. Kids from Uinta County are held there too. Call 307-352-4900 to ask about a child.
Wyoming sends kids home with a parent when it's safe (W.S. 14-6-206). A detained child must get a hearing inside two days, or 48 hours, where Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays don't count (W.S. 14-6-209). Juvenile court is private. Juvenile Probation: Rock Springs 307-922-5290, Green River 307-872-3860.
↑ Back to the question list21. Which agency booked them?
About 41,270 people live in the county. Rock Springs has about 22,940, and Green River, the county seat, about 11,450. The roster's arresting-agency field names who booked the person: RSPD, GRPD or SCSO.
