DC Department of Corrections - Facilities & Inmate Search

Washington DC maintains their own jail and prison system, facilities which consists of every security level; maximum, medium, and minimum, as well as facilities that focus on sober living, and halfway houses that prepare inmates for life outside of jail. In Washington DC, because it is not a state, when an offender is convicted of a felony that requires prison time, they are sent to the Bureau of Prisons, prisons run by the federal government. Look up an inmate there.

The DC Department of Corrections is where offenders are sent that have been accused of misdemeanor crimes, and felony crimes of murder, rape, assault, serious thefts and drug related offenses. Inmates convcted of less serious crimes and sentenced to less than one year will remain here. Those convicted of more serious crimes will be remanded to the Bureau of PrisonsThe Federal Bureau of Prisons also has a death row in USP Terre Haute Indiana with over 40 murderers waiting to be executed at any one time. Many of them are from Washington DC.

The  Washington DC Youth Services oversees one facility for juvenile offenders who have been convicted of serious crimes and sentenced to detention. Some are pre-trial, awaiting their court dates.
