Rules for personal mail. Mail that breaks these rules is destroyed, not sent back.

  • Include the inmate's name and ID, plus your return address.
  • Paper can be no bigger than 8½ x 11 inches and no thicker than light card stock, because it has to go through a scanner.
  • Use white paper and white envelopes. Do not send colored paper, colored ink, crayon, marker, glitter, paint or white-out.
  • Do not send stamps, blank envelopes, stationery, address labels, stickers, homemade or musical cards, or tracing paper.
  • Photos are the only thing you may enclose. You may send up to 10 per mailing, printed on photo paper. Internet printouts are not allowed.
  • No cash or checks. Money orders are the only accepted form, and any letter sent with a money order is destroyed, so mail the letter separately.
  • No packages, books, magazines or newspapers.
  • Certified mail that needs an inmate's signature, and mail with postage due, is returned.

Which Kentucky post office box handles family letters for Hand Avenue?

Mail them to TextBehind's scanning hub: Inmate Name – Inmate ID, Baldwin County Jail, AL, PO Box 76550, Highland Heights, KY 41076, and the person reads the scan on a tablet.

Will a family letter sent to the Corrections Center street address still get through?

Starting September 1, 2025, the Hand Avenue building began refusing family letters, keeping that address for attorney correspondence alone.

Does Baldwin send back letters that break the scanning rules?

Non-legal pieces that fail TextBehind's checks are destroyed instead of returned, so review paper color, size and ink first. Pieces must be letter size or smaller and thin enough for a sheet-fed scanner, with a handwritten return address in blue or black ink. Stamps, stickers, address labels, homemade or musical cards, colored paper, internet printouts and packages are all banned.

How many photos fit in one Baldwin envelope?

Ten prints at most, on genuine photo paper, and pictures are the only enclosures permitted.

Can a Baldwin inmate get paper copies of scanned letters later?

Sheriff's rules let an inmate ask for hard copies on release. The Corrections Center at 251-937-0202 can explain how that request is filed. Since only letters go to Kentucky, any money belongs on the route our Bay Minette deposit page describes.

Emailing an Inmate

Many jails now offer email services for inmates and their families, making communication easier and faster. You can access your email anytime via smartphone, computer, or tablet.

This eliminates the need to buy stamps, use envelopes, or visit the post office.

Inmates prefer it since it allows for faster message delivery and immediate responses.

Jail staff supports the use of email services as it helps prevent contraband from being smuggled in through mail and provides a permanent electronic record.

All emails are screened through a filter that flags certain words associated with criminal or gang activities.

Emails between inmates and their family or friends have been used in court cases to secure convictions or file additional charges.

Call 251-937-0202 or click here to find out if email services are available at this jail and how to get started.
