Looking for someone in custody? The inmate search tool shows everyone currently held at the 43-bed Henry County Jail, and staff can answer questions around the clock at 334-585-3293.
Anyone arrested in the county on misdemeanor or felony charges comes through this facility for booking and processing. Depending on the charges, they may be held until they are bonded out, released on their own recognizance, or kept in custody until their trial is over.
People sentenced to under a year serve that time at this jail. Longer sentences are served in the Alabama State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
This page covers the visitation schedule, adding funds to an inmate’s account, mail rules, phone calls from inmates, voicemail, email and texting, tablet rentals, how to post bail, and commissary orders.
Keep the inmate’s jail ID or booking number handy, because most mail and messaging services require it. If you can’t find it online, call Henry County Jail at 334-585-3293.

Although the Henry County Jail is licensed for 43 inmates, it frequently holds more than that, particularly on weekends. City and county jails typically turn over at least 40% of their population every month, another 30% every 90 days, and another 20% every six months, with roughly 8-9% staying six to twelve months. Inmates who stay longer than a year are usually charged with serious crimes like murder or rape. Those cases take a long time to prepare for trial, so offenders arrested in Henry County for them stay in the Henry County facility much longer.
Henry County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 860 offenders every year.
Henry County’s jail has operated at 166 East Williams Street in Abbeville since 1978. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office runs it as a small medium-security jail with room for about 43 people, holding men and women charged with misdemeanors and felonies who are waiting for trial or sentencing, along with those serving under a year. The jail line, (334) 585-3293, is staffed 24 hours; the sheriff’s office is at (334) 585-3131.
Family visits happen by video through NCIC. On-site visits at the jail are free and run Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon. Remote visits from home are available daily 9 a.m.–8:30 p.m. and cost about $7.50 for 30 minutes plus a $2 fee. Schedule every visit at least 24 hours ahead at NCIC’s visit site. Each person may have two visits a week, with two adult guests plus one child age 6 or younger. You need to be on the approved list and bring a government-issued photo ID.
Once booked, a person must go before a judge within 72 hours and without unnecessary delay (Alabama Rule of Criminal Procedure 4.3). Henry County belongs to the 20th Judicial Circuit, shared with Houston County. Most people are entitled to bail. The exceptions are capital cases where proof is evident, and, after a pretrial detention hearing, the Aniah’s Law offenses: murder, first-degree kidnapping, rape, sodomy, sexual torture, domestic violence, human trafficking, burglary, arson, robbery, aggravated child abuse, certain crimes against children, and terrorism. Since May 2026 that also includes solicitation, attempt, or conspiracy to commit murder and shooting into an occupied building or vehicle. The Rule 7.2 guideline is $10,000–$60,000 for Class A felonies and lower for lesser charges, and judges can adjust it. Bail may be posted in cash, by credit card or money order, with property in Henry County, or through a local bondsman; release on recognizance or an unsecured bond is also possible.
Mail goes to the person’s full name and inmate ID, Henry County Jail, 101 Court Square, Suite G, Abbeville, AL 36310. Books must be paperback and sent from a publisher. For money, use NCIC at (800) 943-2189, Inmate Canteen at team3.inmatecanteen.com, the jail kiosk, or a mailed money order; commissary purchases top out at $125. Phone accounts are also opened with NCIC.
Look up custody through VINELink and cases on Alacourt. Before surrendering on a warrant, call the sheriff’s office or an attorney.
No public bus serves the jail; most visitors drive. Gas is close at Shell, 501 Kirkland St, and Marathon, 401 Columbia Rd. Jimmy’s Barbecue at 103 Kirkland St and Subway at 644 Ozark Rd are easy stops for food.

How Do I put Money on an Inmate's Commissary Account in the Henry County Jail to Purchase Phone Cards?
There are FOUR options for putting money on an inmate's books:
Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Henry County Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use the NCIC self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.
Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Henry County Jail uses NCIC to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. NCIC charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.
Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order. Mail it to the Henry County Jail address on this page, or to the address below if it is different than the facility address.
