Every detail on this page is checked by hand, not scraped. This unofficial directory helps friends and family of incarcerated individuals find critical information — inmate lists, locations, bail resources, visitation hours, rules, and text, phone, email, and mail services — for jails, detention centers, and prisons across the United States.
You can call the 434-bed Lee County Detention Center 24 hours a day for inmate information at 334-737-7050.
Arrested individuals, whether for misdemeanors or felonies, are brought here for booking and processing. Depending on the charges, they may remain incarcerated until they are either bonded out, released on their own recognizance, or held until their trial concludes.
The inmate search tool allows you to access the facility's inmate roster and see who is currently in custody.
Inmates sentenced to less than one year will serve their time at this jail. Sentences longer than one year result in transfers to either the Alabama State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
This page provides all the information you need regarding inmate services, including the visitation schedule, how to fund an inmate's account, sending mail, receiving phone calls, voicemail, emailing and texting, tablet rentals, bail bond details, and commissary purchases.
It's important to save the inmate's jail ID or booking number for correspondence. If you cannot locate it online, contact Lee County Detention Center at 334-737-7050 for help.

By the numbers, the Lee County Detention Center:
At most city and county jails, at least 40% of inmates turn over monthly, another 30% every 90 days, and another 20% every six months, while about 8-9% stay six to twelve months. Inmates held longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges like rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in Lee County remain in custody at the Lee County facility much longer.
Each year, Lee County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 8,680 offenders.
Lee County Detention Center in Opelika, Alabama is a medium-security facility with a capacity of 434 inmates. It houses all kinds of inmates from those with low-level misdemeanors to those incarcerated for more severe offenses, and it can be contacted 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is not related to the Ross-Bell Jefferson County Youth Detention Center or the Lee County Youth Development Center. It is a sprawling two-story brick and concrete structure that was built in 1984.
The facility is attached to the W.S. “Buck” Jones Sheriff’s Administration Building and the original jail located at the Justice Center.

The Lee County Detention Center is run by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. It shares the Sheriff’s Office address at 1900 Frederick Road, Opelika, AL 36801. The Sheriff’s main number is (334) 749-5651, with office hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The jail line is (334) 737-7050 and answers 24 hours a day. The two-story, medium-security jail opened in 1984, has room for about 434 people, and books more than 4,500 people a year. It holds men and women charged with misdemeanors and felonies, and people with county sentences of less than a year stay here.
Lee County does not offer in-person visits. The Sheriff’s Office says all visits are remote, so you can connect from a computer, tablet, or phone. Visits, texts, emails, and calls all go through NCIC. Set up an account at ncic.com or call (800) 943-2189. Video visits can last anywhere from one to 25 minutes, are available seven days a week, and cost $0.30 a minute. NCIC gives each person one free visit and several free phone calls every week. Because nobody needs to visit in person, the main reasons to go to the jail are posting bond, using the lobby kiosk, or picking someone up.
Use the Sheriff’s inmate search at leecosheriffal.gov or its recent-arrests page to find someone. Under Rule 4.3, the person will see a judge without unnecessary delay and within 72 hours of arrest. Lee County is in the 37th Judicial Circuit, and case information is on Alacourt. If there’s a warrant, call the Sheriff’s Office or a lawyer before you turn yourself in.
For bond amounts, call (334) 737-7050. Bonds can be paid with cash, a credit card, or a money order, backed by property in Lee County, or posted through a licensed bonding company. In Alabama, most defendants are entitled to bail. Capital cases where the proof is evident or the presumption great are an exception. Aniah’s Law (2022) also allows detention without bail after a hearing for murder; first-degree kidnapping, rape, sodomy, sexual torture, domestic violence, human trafficking, burglary, arson, and robbery; aggravated child abuse and certain offenses against children; and terrorism. Amendment 1, approved in May 2026 with 81.6% of the vote, added solicitation, attempt, or conspiracy to commit murder and shooting into an occupied building or vehicle. Rule 7.2 sets a recommended schedule of $10,000–$60,000 for a Class A felony, $5,000–$30,000 for Class B, $300–$6,000 for a Class A misdemeanor, and $1,000–$7,500 for DUI, which judges can raise or lower. Personal recognizance and unsecured appearance bonds are also possible.
Mail goes to the person’s name at P.O. Box 2407, Opelika, AL 36801. For commissary money, use the lobby kiosk (cash or card) or team3.inmatecanteen.com (debit or credit). Orders are due by 11 p.m. Monday and delivered Wednesday, with a limit of $120 a week not counting snack bundles. Everyone gets three meals a day, basic hygiene items, medical care, and postage if they can’t afford it. For someone held seven days or less, you may drop off plain white underwear, socks, and T-shirts (three of each), two thermal sets, one pair of plain white tennis shoes, three plain white wire-free bras for women, and one Bible or Quran. Anyone released gets their remaining balance on a check or debit card. Lee-Russell Public Transit offers free on-demand rides on weekdays that you book ahead at (334) 749-9092.
