Montgomery County Youth Facility

In Montgomery County the youth who are processed through the juvenile court and are sentenced to incarceration for crimes they were charged with. Staff work closely with those in the juvenile court to maintain the safety and security of the community as well as within the facility. Montgomery County insists on the parents being an active part of the process and hold them accountable for their children and their actions. For this reason, there are many programs that are family oriented and help parents to learn new skills and ways to parent as well as teaching the young offenders new ways to approach things. The original facility had a capacity of only 34 and it was added to over the years until it reached the current capacity of 52 in 1990. Youth may be held here while they are waiting for their trial to begin, while they are waiting to hear a sentence, or when they have been sentenced to a term of incarceration. The facility provides clothing and laundry services, all bedding, and most or all hygiene items. A kitchen is onsite to provide healthy meals, school courses and physical education are also provided, along with recreational times and opportunities to engage in arts or crafts as well as socialize with other youth. Phones: Each youth is offered the opportunity to call their parents or guardians upon their admittance to the facility, and will be permitted to call their attorney or probation officer as needed, along with having access to call their immediate family throughout their stay. Mail: Mail can be sent from the facility and young offenders may receive mail if they are present at the location for a period long enough for the mail to arrive. All mail is checked for contraband and delivered by the US Postal Service. Visitation: Family will be permitted to engage in family programs that occur along with their child, and they can arrange visits directly with the facility.
