Every detail on this page is checked by hand, not scraped. This unofficial directory helps friends and family of incarcerated individuals find critical information — inmate lists, locations, bail resources, visitation hours, rules, and text, phone, email, and mail services — for jails, detention centers, and prisons across the United States.
For inmate information, the 72-bed Randolph County Jail can be reached at 256-357-4545 24 hours a day.
This facility conducts booking and processing for all misdemeanor and felony arrests in the county. Inmates whose charges require detention remain here until they bond out, are released on their own recognizance, or are held through the end of their trial.
The inmate search tool gives you access to the list of people currently in custody.
Those serving a sentence of less than one year serve it at this jail. Those with a sentence of a year or longer are transferred to the Alabama State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
This page gives you information about the visitation schedule, how to fund an inmate’s account, mail an inmate, receive phone calls, use voicemail, send emails and texts, rent tablets, post bail, and purchase commissary.
Save the inmate’s jail ID or booking number, as it’s commonly needed for mail. If you can’t locate it online, call Randolph County Jail at 256-357-4545.

Randolph County Jail Inmate Search
We’ve compiled a helpful list of Frequently Asked Questions and Answers about finding an inmate in the Randolph County Jail, how jail rosters work, and what happens after booking. For further assistance, call 256-357-4545.
The Randolph County Jail is licensed for 72 inmates, but on weekends especially, it is often forced to hold many more. Most city and county jails turn over at least 40% of their inmate population monthly, another 30% every 90 days, and another 20% every six months, while approximately 8-9% remain six to twelve months. Stays of more than twelve months usually involve serious charges such as rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in Randolph County stay at the Randolph County facility much longer.
Each year, Randolph County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 1,440 offenders.
The modern, grey and blue, newly built Randolph County Jail offers both minimum and maximum security housing pods for both male and female inmates. It provides that housing for all offenders arrested on misdemeanors and felonies throughout Randolph County, both as they wait for their trial and as they serve a sentence. The building has a top capacity of 110 inmates and covers 27,181 square feet with a modular build allowing for expansion easily and without extensive construction.
While the old jail was located directly behind the courthouse and shared a parking lot with them, the new building is on Probilt drive in Wedowee.
The Randolph County Detention Center at 340 Probilt Drive in Wedowee opened in February 2021, replacing a 1985 jail that had problems with crowding and bad plumbing. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office runs it. The building cost about $11.7 million, covers 27,181 square feet, and houses about 110 men and women at minimum and maximum security levels. It can grow to 156 beds without major construction. For jail business, call (256) 357-4545 and choose option 2. Administrative staff are available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The current inmate list is on the sheriff’s roster at randolphcountyso.org. Anyone booked here must see a judge without unnecessary delay, and within 72 hours of arrest, under Alabama Rule of Criminal Procedure 4.3. Randolph County belongs to the Fifth Judicial Circuit. You can follow the case on Alacourt (v2.alacourt.com). If you believe there is a warrant, call the sheriff’s office or a lawyer before turning yourself in.
In Alabama, most defendants can get bail. The main exceptions are capital cases where the proof is evident or the presumption great, and cases covered by Aniah’s Law (2022). For those charges, a judge may deny bail after a pretrial detention hearing: murder; first-degree kidnapping, rape, sodomy, sexual torture, domestic violence, human trafficking, burglary, arson and robbery; aggravated child abuse and certain offenses against children; and terrorism. In May 2026, voters approved Amendment 1 (81.6% yes), which added solicitation, attempt or conspiracy to commit murder, and shooting into an occupied building or vehicle. For other charges, judges start from the Rule 7.2 schedule ($10,000–$60,000 for a Class A felony, $5,000–$30,000 for a Class B felony, $300–$6,000 for a Class A misdemeanor, and $1,000–$7,500 for DUI) and can go above or below it. Release can be on personal recognizance, on an unsecured appearance bond, or on a secured bond using cash, property or a licensed bail bond company.
You can visit online through the jail’s approved provider, Inmate Sales (Combined Public Communications), or in person at the visitation kiosk inside the detention center. On-site visits run daily from 8:00–11:00 a.m. and 1:00–4:00 p.m. Each inmate gets one 30-minute visit a week, with no more than two guests. Bring a government-issued photo ID and dress conservatively. No public bus serves Wedowee, so most visitors drive. Exxon at 1308 Main Street S. and Main Street Food Mart at 444 N. Main Street sell gas, and Jack’s (32 Village Lane) and Subway (142 Village Lane) are close by for a meal.
Address letters to Randolph County Detention Center, Attn: the detainee’s full legal name, P.O. Box 347, Wedowee, AL 36278. Paperback books are the only property accepted by mail or delivery service. During the first seven days, families may bring socks, underwear and white T-shirts, and they must be new and still in the original sealed package. Commissary is run by Kimbell’s Food By Design. Deposits go through team3.inmatecanteen.com, and orders placed by 6:00 p.m. Monday arrive on Wednesday. For phone time, CPC takes deposits at the lobby kiosk, at cpcjail.com, or at (877) 998-5678.
