The Kenai Peninsula Youth Facility houses juvenile offenders and those requiring supervision. It services the communities surrounding Kenai, including Tyonek, Seldovia, Nanwalek, Port Graham, Fritz Creek, Nikolaevsk, Homer, Anchor Point, Ninilchik, Clam Gulch, Kasilof, Nikiski, Kenai, Soldotna, Sterling, Cooper Landing, Moose Pass, Hope and Seward. As a full service facility, it ensures that healthy meals are provided three times each day, clothing and bedding are supplied and washed regularly, treatment for any substance dependency or addiction, life skills are taught, as well as schoolwork and continued education, physical activity, and care for all medical and mental health needs. The goal of the facility is to teach good choices and decision making, self-awareness, healthy lifestyles, and to offer the skills and knowledge that is needed to build a successful life. By allowing youth to serve their sentence, wait for their court date, or receive treatment, within their own community benefits both the youth and the community. They are more likely to maintain contact with their families and reintegrate easily after they are released. Those who have family nearby are more likely to receive regular visits and to have the support of their friends and family as they work through the process and towards their release.
