Back to questions ↑What happens after a federal arrest in Parker?
A federal case often starts after Homeland Security Investigations, the FBI, or the ATF carry out an arrest. Major crimes on Colorado River Indian Tribes land may be charged federally. Federal hearings in Parker cases are held at the federal courthouse in Phoenix, 401 West Washington Street, Phoenix, AZ 85003, part of the Phoenix Division (District of Arizona). Clerk's phone: 602-322-7200. Soon after booking, they see a federal magistrate judge. Bail isn't set off a chart in the federal courts. Under the federal Bail Reform Act, a judge leads a bail hearing then rules on release or detention. Expect questions from pretrial services before court.
During the case, U.S. Marshals usually hold the person in a nearby jail. Search the local roster, where a Marshals hold can be listed. Otherwise phone the Marshals office for Arizona in Phoenix at 602-382-8768 (401 West Washington Street, Suite 270, Phoenix, AZ 85003). Those sentenced to federal prison leave the county jail to the BOP later. Locate them by using the federal locator.
Back to questions ↑How will an ICE hold play out?
- ICE learns about most arrests from fingerprints staff send. Then ICE might issue a detainer.
- Paying bail won't remove the detainer.
- With the I-247A, ICE requests that the sheriff push back the person's release for at most two days. A holiday won't stop the clock.
- Officers from ICE may take custody in person before the 48 hours end. If they don't come, the sheriff has to release the person.
- To see where ICE took them, open the ICE locator and enter their A-number and their birth country. Families lacking the A-number can enter the name they were booked under plus home country and birth date.
- Only ICE picks the detention center.
- Every Arizona case goes to the Phoenix field office: 2035 North Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85004, tel. 602-257-5900.
Sentenced to state prison: the next steps
A state prison sentence is spent in the custody of the state corrections department (ADCRR). Until then, most people wait in the Parker jail until the ADCRR has room, sometimes for months. The ride ends at reception, where they are checked in. Prison staff review everyone based on their medical and mental health, any gang affiliation, and their risk level. Their last step is a unit that suits their rating.
Check the ADCRR inmate search to follow the move. Our Arizona prison page covers each unit.
