Every detail on this page is checked by hand, not scraped. This unofficial directory helps friends and family of incarcerated individuals find critical information — inmate lists, locations, bail resources, visitation hours, rules, and text, phone, email, and mail services — for jails, detention centers, and prisons across the United States.
The 152-bed Prescott Detention Center provides inmate information 24 hours a day by phone at 928-771-3260.
People arrested in this county on misdemeanor or felony charges are brought here first for booking and processing. Those who aren’t immediately released stay in custody until they bond out, are released on their own recognizance, or are ordered held until their trial concludes.
Want to know if someone is here? Search the facility’s roster with the inmate search tool.
After sentencing, inmates with terms under one year stay at this jail, while inmates with longer terms are transferred to the Arizona State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
This page tells you how to search the official jail roster, how to get to the jail, and how to use inmate services such as visitation, account funding, mail, phone calls, voicemail, email and texting, tablet rentals, bail bonds, and commissary.
Most communication services ask for the inmate’s booking number or jail ID, so keep it on hand. If it’s missing online, call Prescott Detention Center at 928-771-3260.

Have questions about finding an inmate in the Prescott Detention Center? Our Frequently Asked Questions and Answers cover how jail rosters work and what happens after an arrest and booking. For anything else, call 928-771-3260.
The Prescott Detention Center is licensed for 152 inmates, but it often has to make room for many more, especially on weekends. Forty percent or more of the inmate population at most city and county jails in Arizona turns over monthly, another 30% every 90 days, and another 20% every six months, with about 8-9% staying six to twelve months. Inmates held longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges like rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in Yavapai County remain in custody at one of the Yavapai County facilities much longer.
Many people arrested in Arizona are released without paying anything. Arizona’s court rules start from the presumption that a defendant is released on their own recognizance, and judges set bail only when that isn’t enough to ensure the person returns to court or to protect public safety.
Yavapai County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 17,520 offenders every year.
Yavapai County’s jail in Prescott is the Prescott Detention Center at 1200 Prescott Lakes Parkway, Prescott, AZ 86301, part of the county’s Criminal Justice Center beside the juvenile detention center. The Sheriff’s Office opened it in 2023, and it was fully operating by spring 2024. It replaced the old downtown jail on Gurley Street. The complex includes intake, medical and housing units and two courtrooms. The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office main line is (928) 771-3260, and the detention information line is (928) 567-7734. The jail holds adults awaiting court, people serving county jail sentences of up to one year, and people waiting to go to state prison. The county’s inmate search at apps.yavapaiaz.gov/inmatesearch searches the county’s detention system by last name.
Anyone arrested must appear before a judge within 24 hours under Arizona Rule of Criminal Procedure 4.1, or be released. From there, Rule 7.2 presumes the person will be released on their own recognizance. A judge sets bail or other conditions only when needed to ensure a return to court or to protect a victim or the community, and many people leave without paying anything. Other forms of release are an unsecured bond, a cash bond, a secured appearance bond, or a bond through a licensed bail bond agent. Article 2, Section 22 of the Arizona Constitution limits no-bail holds to cases decided after a hearing: capital offenses and certain serious sexual offenses when the proof is evident or the presumption great, a felony committed while already on bail for a felony, or a substantial danger no condition can manage. Bonds can be posted at the jail 24 hours a day, in cash, money order, cashier’s check payable to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, or by card at the kiosk, or online through GovPayNow at govpaynow.com (location code A001YN, 1-877-392-2455).
Visiting works the same way at both Yavapai jails. Free on-site video visits through Securus Technologies run Monday through Friday, noon to 3:30 p.m., for 20 minutes each, booked one to 14 days in advance. There are no holiday visits. Remote visits from home are available through Securus for a fee. Gang-related, sheer or revealing clothing isn’t allowed.
Yavapai Regional Transit runs limited fixed routes linking Chino Valley, Prescott and Prescott Valley on certain weekdays. Call (928) 458-5885 to see if a stop is close enough to use. Most visitors drive. The 76 station at 1619 State Route 69 and the Texaco at 810 East Sheldon Street are nearby for fuel, and McDonald’s at 1711 State Route 69 and In-N-Out Burger at 3040 State Route 69 are quick meal options.
Don’t mail letters to the Prescott building. All personal mail for Yavapai inmates goes to the inmate’s name, 2830 N Commonwealth Drive, Suite 105, Camp Verde, AZ 86322, and postcards are not accepted. Securus handles phones, eMessaging and tablets, and inmates can’t receive incoming calls except in verified emergencies. JPay takes deposits online, by phone at (800) 574-5729, and at the lobby kiosk. Aramark’s iCare program sells care packages. Every new arrival is screened for the Reach Out re-entry program, which connects people with treatment and family support after release. To check for warrants or open cases before turning yourself in, search apps.azcourts.gov/publicaccess and talk to the Sheriff’s Office or an attorney first.
After an arrest, individuals are taken to Prescott Detention Center where they go through booking. This process includes identifying the person, reviewing charges, and determining whether they will be released on their own, eligible for bail, or detained until their court date.
It’s crucial to remain silent after being arrested. Anything said may be used in court, so it’s better to refrain from speaking until consulting with an attorney.
The following steps outline the booking procedure at Prescott Detention Center:
Booking can take from a short hour to longer periods, especially on busy nights or with uncooperative individuals. For inquiries about posting bond for an arrestee, call the facility at 928-771-3260.
