After sentencing, inmates with terms under one year stay at this jail, while inmates with longer terms are transferred to the Arkansas State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Most communication services ask for the inmate’s booking number or jail ID, so keep it on hand. If it’s missing online, call Dallas County Detention Center at 870-352-2002.

For questions the FAQs don’t answer, call the Dallas County Detention Center at 870-352-2002.

The Dallas County Detention Center is licensed for 130 inmates at any given time, but it is often forced to make room for many more, especially on weekends. At most city and county jails in Arkansas, at least 40% of inmates turn over each month, another 30% every 90 days, another 20% every six months, and approximately 8-9% remain in custody between six and twelve months. Inmates held longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges such as rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in Dallas County stay at one of the Dallas County facilities much longer.

Under the Arkansas Constitution, everyone charged with a crime is entitled to bail before trial, except for capital offenses when the proof is evident or the presumption is great. For any other charge, judges in Dallas County can release a defendant on their own recognizance, set conditions of release, or set a bail amount.

Approximately 2,600 offenders are arrested and detained by Dallas County law enforcement agencies each year.

In Fordyce, the Dallas County Detention Center shares the sheriff’s office building at 106 South Charlotte Street. Sheriff Mike Knoedl’s office runs the jail, and the main number is (870) 352-2002; the front office keeps weekday hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The jail holds men only, with room for roughly 130 people, and its population includes people waiting on local charges, people sentenced to the Arkansas Division of Correction who are waiting for transfer, and some federal detainees brought in by the U.S. Marshals. If a woman is arrested in Dallas County, call the sheriff’s office to learn where she has been taken.

The quickest check is the Dallas County jail roster, which shows photos, arrest dates, arresting agencies and charges. The sheriff also keeps a most wanted page. Felony cases are heard in the 13th Judicial Circuit, and case details appear on Search ARCourts. Anyone who suspects a warrant should call the sheriff’s office or an attorney before going in.

Following booking, Arkansas Rule of Criminal Procedure 8.1 calls for a first appearance before a judge without unnecessary delay, generally within 48 hours of arrest. Arkansas’s constitution (Art. 2, §8) makes every person bailable before conviction except for capital offenses when the proof is evident or the presumption great. Rules 9.1–9.2 tell judges to look first at release on recognizance or with conditions and to set money bail only if nothing else will reasonably bring the person back to court. A bail bond agent charges a premium of 10% of the bond, rounded up to the nearest $5 (Ark. Code §17-19-301), paid in full before release, plus small nonrefundable state fees. Call the jail for bond amounts.

NCIC Inmate Communications handles every form of contact. Steps to pay bail in Dallas County

After an arrest, individuals are brought to Dallas County Detention Center in Fordyce for processing. Following this, three possible outcomes exist:

1. The individual may be released without posting bail, with a promise to appear in court.
2. The individual could be held in jail until their court date.
3. Bail or bond can be posted for release; for more information, contact 870-352-2002.

Bail payment can be handled through various means.

  • Pay a cash bond in full at the bonding window inside the jail or at the clerk of court, by cash, cashier's check or money order; a lobby kiosk or online bond vendor often takes debit and credit cards for an extra fee, and you should bring the inmate's full name and booking number (the jail can be reached at 870-352-2002).
  • Licensed bail bond agents in Dallas County are available for assistance.
  • Land or a home can often serve as bond collateral: the owner provides a deed and a recent tax or appraisal value showing clear title and equity of at least the bond amount, commonly double, and the court that set bail approves the pledge.

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Dallas County Detention Center?

There are three choices for putting money on an inmate's books:

Choice 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail

Ask the jail whether it takes deposits in person before you go.

Call Dallas County Detention Center to ask whether it has a Tiger kiosk for cash or card deposits, and where it is.

If you can't get your questions answered online call the Dallas County Detention Center at 870-352-2002.

Choice 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online

Tiger Commissary's online site lists the services set up for each jail, such as commissary orders or deposits.

Go to Tiger's online site, pick the state and the jail, and see which services it offers there.

Choice 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail

Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union.

Call Dallas County Detention Center at 870-352-2002 to confirm the address to send the money order to and how they want it made out.

Failure to do this properly will delay your inmate getting his account credited and may require you to have to resubmit a second money order.

Call 870-352-2002 to ask facility personnel who to make the money order out to, and where to send it.
