Back to questions ↑3. First hearing in Paragould
Arkansas requires a judge to find cause by the 48-hour mark when an arrest had no warrant; the Paragould first appearance comes soon after.
Back to questions ↑4. Paragould courts
Misdemeanor cases are heard in Greene County District Court in Paragould, while felonies move up to the circuit judge. See Greene court process.
Back to questions ↑5. Bail
Post the full amount or use a licensed bondsman, who can charge no more than ten percent. Call 870-236-7612. See bail.
Back to questions ↑6. Lawyer
Paragould judges ask about pay stubs, rent and children before naming an appointed lawyer, who is usually in court that same week. Ask the judge at first appearance for a public defender if needed.
Back to questions ↑7. Might someone in the Greene County Detention Center have warrants from another county?
It's worth checking before you post bond. The sheriff's office can tell you about any warrants or detainers on the booking if you call 870-236-7612. A search on Search ARCourts, Arkansas's court case search, may show open matters elsewhere in the state. If another warrant exists, a lawyer can work with that court on bond so your loved one walks out once. The Circuit Clerk in Paragould handles felony case inquiries at 870-239-6330. Have the full legal name and date of birth ready.
Back to questions ↑8. Scheduling visits
Paragould requires a day's notice for any visit, and slots open about seven days out. Photo ID required. Check online or call. See visits, remote visits.
Back to questions ↑9. Phone calls
A Rocking Chair Road detainee places the call; you can't dial the jail and be put through. The phone company bills the money you loaded beforehand. Inmates call out using prepaid funds. See phones, messages, tablets.
Back to questions ↑10. Deposits in Paragould
With nearly 440 beds, Paragould runs a busy weekly commissary, and orders placed with no balance simply aren't filled. Money buys commissary and phone time. See deposits, commissary.
Back to questions ↑11. Letters
Paragould officers screen letters before delivery, refusing ones with lipstick marks, stickers or a scent. Full name and the Rocking Chair Road address. See mail.
Back to questions ↑12. Juveniles from Greene County
A Greene County juvenile judge rules on whether a youth stays in custody, and the sheriff's office can tell parents which center.
Back to questions ↑13. Medical
Nurses at the Paragould jail check outside prescriptions with the pharmacy before giving them, so tell them which pharmacy fills it. Call the jail and ask that the nurse be informed.
Back to questions ↑14. Phone Paragould first
Greene County visits are booked at least a day in advance, and a release or transfer cancels them, so check before leaving home. Call 870-236-7612 to confirm custody and your visit.
Back to questions ↑15. Federal arrest: where the case goes
Federal agents from the Marshals Service or the DEA make federal arrests. The case is filed in the Northern Division of Arkansas's Eastern District in the federal building in Jonesboro: 615 South Main Street, Room 312, Jonesboro, AR 72401. The clerk's line: 870-972-4610. The first appearance happens quickly with a federal magistrate judge. Unlike state court, federal judges won't use a set dollar amount. A detention hearing under the federal Bail Reform Act decides detention or release. Pretrial services also talks with the person and sends a report to the court.
Try the sheriff's jail list right away; there a federal hold may show. Some federal defendants wait in the Paragould jail rented by the Marshals before trial. The Marshals Service branch covering this area sits at 600 West Capitol Avenue, Suite A328, Little Rock, AR 72201. Call 501-324-6256 to ask about the person. Following a prison sentence, they transfer into federal prison (the BOP). Follow them with the BOP locator by name.
Back to questions ↑16. ICE hold: what to expect for families
- ICE learns about most arrests through fingerprints deputies share. ICE can then send a detainer (Form I-247A).
- A posted bond won't end an ICE hold.
- Under that form, ICE wants the jail to keep the person locked up at most two days beyond the scheduled release. The jail may not extend it past 48 hours on a weekend.
- During that window, ICE can come to take custody. If nobody comes, staff should free them.
- The next stop is ICE's call.
- If deputies don't know, try the ICE field office for this region on 504-318-2360; it sits at 181 James Drive W, St. Rose, LA 70087.
- Check the online detainee locator with the A-number and birth country. No ICE number? A name search takes their full name, along with the day they were born and native country.
17. How will the move from the Paragould jail to state prison happen?
Felony prison terms are handled by the ADC. Until then, the person waits in the Paragould jail until the ADC has a bed ready. The transfer ends at intake, where they get processed. At intake, staff weigh gang links, health and mental health care, and security level. Their final step is a unit that suits them.
The ADC inmate search shows their unit. Our Arkansas prison page covers every state unit.
Back to questions ↑18. Are there Greene County mugshots I can look up?
Yes. Mugshots taken at the Greene jail post in the Greene County inmate search. Old Greene bookings may not stay posted.
To get an ICE booking photo, submit an ICE records request; approval is up to ICE. Unposted mugshots come from the sheriff's office; media can phone 870-236-7612. Federal mugshots aren't released to reporters or the public. Federal policy limits sharing to a few cases: for an escapee or fugitive, when there's an urgent safety need or to help a capture or to alert the public.
