Lafayette County Jail
Lafayette County Jail
Whenever you need inmate information, call the 55-bed Lafayette County Jail at 870-921-4258. They answer 24 hours a day.
People arrested in this county are brought here for booking and processing whether the charge is a misdemeanor or a felony. From there, depending on the charges, they are bonded out, released on their own recognizance, or held until their trial is over.
To find out who is currently in custody, search the roster with the inmate search tool.
Inmates who are sentenced to less than one year remain here to serve their time. Inmates with longer sentences are transferred to the Arkansas State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
This page has details on the visitation schedule, inmate account funding, sending mail, phone calls, voicemail, email and texting, tablet rentals, bail bonds, and commissary.
Most mail and messaging services require the inmate’s jail ID or booking number, so save it. If it’s not listed online, call Lafayette County Jail at 870-921-4258.

By the numbers, the Lafayette County Jail:
- Is licensed for 55 inmates at any given time
- Often has to make room for many more, especially on weekends
At most city and county jails in Arkansas, at least 40% of inmates turn over monthly, another 30% every 90 days, and another 20% every six months, while about 8-9% stay six to twelve months. Inmates held longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges like rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in Lafayette County remain in custody at one of the Lafayette County facilities much longer.
In Arkansas, the state constitution guarantees a right to bail before conviction for every offense except capital crimes where the proof is evident or the presumption is great. Judges in Lafayette County decide whether to release a defendant on their own recognizance, with conditions, or on a set bail amount.
Every year, Lafayette County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 1,100 offenders.
When someone is arrested in Lafayette County, in the far southwest corner of Arkansas, they are booked into the Lafayette County Jail in Lewisville. The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office runs the jail; Sheriff Jeff Black was elected in 2023. The sheriff’s office is at 5 Courthouse Square, Lewisville, AR 71845, and the jail can be reached at (870) 921-4258. It is a small jail of roughly 60 beds that holds both men and women. Most people inside are awaiting trial, while others are serving county sentences or waiting to be picked up by the Arkansas Division of Correction after a state prison sentence.
After booking, Arkansas Rule of Criminal Procedure 8.1 requires that the person be brought before a judge without unnecessary delay, generally within 48 hours of arrest. Lafayette County belongs to the Eighth Judicial Circuit–South, which it shares with Miller County. At that first appearance the judge looks at release. Under Article 2, Section 8 of the Arkansas Constitution, everyone is bailable before conviction except in capital cases where the proof is evident or the presumption great, and Rules 9.1 and 9.2 direct judges to consider release on recognizance or on conditions first, setting money bail only when nothing else will reasonably make sure the person returns to court. The jail takes bond payments by cash, money order or card; call ahead to ask what is accepted at the time you plan to come. If you use a bail bondsman, Arkansas Code §17-19-301 sets the premium at 10% of the bond, rounded up to the nearest $5, paid in full before release, plus small state-required nonrefundable fees.
To find out whether a person is in custody, call the jail; the sheriff’s website at lafcoso.us also offers an inmate search. Court dates and case filings are on Search ARCourts at caseinfo.arcourts.gov/opad. If you think there is a warrant out for you, talk to the sheriff’s office or a lawyer before you turn yourself in so you know what bond to expect.
Phone calls, messaging and video visits go through City Tele Coin ((318) 746-1114). You can set up an account at citytelecoin.com and visit by video from home, or use the free kiosk in the sheriff’s office lobby. Remote video visits are limited to 10 minutes per visitor per day. Because visiting days and times can change, call the jail at (870) 921-4258 to confirm current visiting times before you drive over, and bring a government-issued photo ID.
Mail goes to the person’s full name and ID number, Lafayette County Jail, 5 Courthouse Square, Lewisville, AR 71845. Books and magazines must come straight from the publisher, and hardcover books are refused. Money for commissary can be deposited online through CommissaryDeposit.com or at the kiosk in the jail lobby, which takes cash, debit and credit cards.
No public bus serves Lewisville, so most visitors drive. If you need fuel, M & M Quick Stop is at 1406 Spruce St. and Tim’s Food Store, which also sells gas, is at 1109 Spruce St. For a quick meal, Burge’s Hickory Smoked Turkeys and Hams at 526 Spruce St. serves burgers and its well-known smoked turkey, and Mi Familia Tejana Food Shack at 107 Cherry St. serves street tacos.

Understanding the booking process at Lafayette County Jail
After an arrest, individuals are taken to Lafayette County Jail where they go through booking. This process includes identifying the person, reviewing charges, and determining whether they will be released on their own, eligible for bail, or detained until their court date.
It’s crucial to remain silent after being arrested. Anything said may be used in court, so it’s better to refrain from speaking until consulting with an attorney.
The following steps outline the booking procedure at Lafayette County Jail:
- Personal identification verification.
- Taking photographs (mugshots).
- Medical and mental health assessment, as well as inquiries about substance use.
- Possibly collecting DNA samples.
- Performing a full-body search.
- Seizing personal belongings for safekeeping.
- Allowing one phone call.
Booking can take from a short hour to longer periods, especially on busy nights or with uncooperative individuals. For inquiries about posting bond for an arrestee, call the facility at 870-921-4258.
Paying bail for someone in custody in Lafayette County
Once someone is booked at Lafayette County Jail in Lewisville after an arrest, there are several outcomes:
1. They may be released without paying bail, agreeing to show up on a scheduled date.
2. They may remain in custody until their court appearance.
3. They can pay a bail or bond for release. Call 870-921-4258 for bail details.
Bail payments can take several forms.
- The full cash bond is paid at the jail's bonding window or at the clerk of court using cash, a cashier's check or a money order, while many jails add a card option at a lobby kiosk or through an online bond service for a fee; bring the inmate's full name and booking number, and call the jail at 870-921-4258 with questions.
- A licensed bail bond agent in Lafayette County can help cover bail.
- Many courts take real estate as security for a bond; the property owner must show clear title plus equity at least equal to the bond, often twice it, backed by a deed and a recent tax or appraisal value, and the court that set the bail gives final approval.

There are two options for putting money on an inmate's books:
Choice 1 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Lafayette County Jail uses CommissaryDeposit.com to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.
Choice 2 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.
**Call 870-921-4258 first to ask Lafayette County Jail if this option is still available.
