The Nevada County Jail is licensed for 80 inmates, but it is often forced to make room for many more, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails in Arkansas see at least 40% turnover every month, another 30% every 90 days, and another 20% every six months. Roughly 8-9% remain incarcerated between six and twelve months. Inmates held longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges such as rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in Nevada County remain in one of the Nevada County facilities much longer.

The Arkansas Constitution makes all persons bailable before conviction, except for capital offenses where the proof is evident or the presumption is great. Judges in Nevada County can set bail or release conditions for any other charge, or release defendants on their own recognizance.

Nevada County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 1,600 offenders each year.

The single story, tan brick Nevada County Jail is in the back of the Sheriff's office, right next door to the old jail on the corner of E. Vine Street and E. 3rd Street South in Prescott Arkansas.

If someone you care about was arrested in Nevada County, they are most likely at the Nevada County Jail in Prescott. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office runs the jail from 209 East 3rd Street South, Prescott, AR 71857, and you can reach it at (870) 887-2616. The jail holds about 80 people, both men and women. Most are waiting for their cases to move through court; others are serving county sentences or are state inmates waiting for transfer to the Arkansas Division of Correction.

The Sheriff’s Office posts a current roster, plus a list of people released in the last 48 hours, at nevadasheriff.org/inmate-roster. Court records for the county, which sits in the 8th North Judicial Circuit with Hempstead County, can be searched through Search ARCourts. Anyone who thinks they may have a warrant should call the Sheriff’s Office or an attorney first and arrange to turn themselves in.

Once booked, the person should see a judge without unnecessary delay, generally within 48 hours of arrest under Arkansas Rule of Criminal Procedure 8.1. The Arkansas Constitution (Article 2, Section 8) makes everyone bailable before conviction except in capital cases where the proof is evident or the presumption great. Under Rules 9.1 and 9.2, judges first consider release on recognizance or with conditions, and set money bail only when no other conditions will reasonably ensure the person returns to court. A bail bondsman will charge a premium of 10% of the bond, rounded up to the nearest $5 and paid in full before release, plus small state-required nonrefundable fees (Arkansas Code §17-19-301). Call (870) 887-2616 for a bond amount and accepted payment methods.

In-person visits are by appointment only, Monday through Friday from 1:00 to 7:30 p.m., and must be booked at least 24 hours ahead. Only people on the inmate’s approved visitor form may come, each visitor needs a valid government-issued photo ID, and visitors go through a warrant check. Children under 18 must come with an approved parent or legal guardian who brings a birth certificate or custody papers. Leave shorts, short skirts, sleeveless or low-cut tops, hats and sunglasses at home. Video visits run daily from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. through City Tele Coin: a kiosk in the Sheriff’s Office lobby is free, and home visits need an account at citytelecoin.com. City Tele Coin also handles phone accounts.

Mail goes to the person’s full name and inmate ID number, Nevada County Jail, 209 East 3rd Street South, Prescott, AR 71857. Postcards, letters and legal mail are accepted; books and magazines must come directly from a publisher or retailer, and hardcovers are not allowed. Never mail cash. Deposits can be made online at CommissaryDeposit.com or by money order, and commissary packages can be ordered at CommissaryOrder.com.

No public bus serves the jail, so most visitors drive. Superstop at 105 E Main St and the Gulf station at 223 West St N are close by for gas. Sonic Drive-In at 1245 W 1st St N and Hardee’s at 116 Ron Harrod Rd, near Interstate 30, are easy places to grab a meal.

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Nevada County Jail?

There are two options for putting money on an inmate's books:

Choice 1 - Deposit Inmate Money Online

Nevada County Jail uses CommissaryDeposit.com to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Choice 2 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail

Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union.

Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.

**Call 870-887-1111 first to ask Nevada County Jail if this option is still available.
